Weird Stilo Problem

Hey,

Ive got a weird problem with my stilo, I've only had my 1.6 dynamic for a few months, I think the problem has been there since I've had it but it is quite a bit worse/noticeable, when i stat the car it sounds fine but after bout 15mins and its warmed up i can hear a noise as if there was a tiny hole in my exhaust at the front of the car and the performance is slightly off, it feels as if i was driving through mud, the accelaration isn't sharp. The noise is most noticable when ive stopped and rev the car, its quite a deep and echo-ee noise. One of my mates says it could be a spark plug gone, but i had an ignition coil changed 2 or 3 months ago so could it be another one of those going? It is quite annoying, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Stuart

Re: Weird Stilo Problem

well it looks like an entire new exhaust has been put on so it possibly could be welded wrong, cheers.

Re: Weird Stilo Problem

if kwik fit did it like my mrs saxo, then it will be a poorly done job with leaks and a cheap pipe.

hers sounds like its blowing and there is an over fueling problem which i think in all honesty is caused by pressure problems in the exhaust

Re: Weird Stilo Problem

yeh my stilo is using a good amount of fuel, doing about 31.8 to the gallon, gone down from 31.9 in the last week or two which occupanies the noise worsening

Re: Weird Stilo Problem

to rule out a misfire take all the sparkplugs outs and check for colour differences between cylinders.. ive just had 2 coils go i the space of 6 weeks, they wont always bring up an engine fault message either,

and it isnt that easy to detect the misfire, does the exhaust sit steady when its ticking over, or does it shake ??

Re: Weird Stilo Problem

the exhaust doesn't shake excessivly, only very slightly as u would expect. How do i get to the spak plugs and take them out?

Right,

Lift the bonnet, using a 10mm socket take off the engine cover (if it has one)held on bu 4 nuts and washers,

each coil its held on by a 10mm bolt, undo and unclpi the coils by pulling the little yellow tag on the connectors towards you, then persuade it loose,

lift the coil out

then using a 21mm spark socket ( i think) with a long reach extension undo the sparks, be steady though as the ceramic outer of the plug can be brittle.,

you should see a light chocolate brown colour plug, on each cylinder, if its been missing, it will either be wet or darker than the rest,

Re: Weird Stilo Problem

if it is a problem with the welding on part of the pipe my mate was going on about this stuff you can wrap onto your exhasut to stop it blowing, it looks like a plaster strip (the kind you use when you cut your self), he said wrap this arround the hole and let the engine run for a good 15 minutes and it will shrink and harden around it. does any one know what im on about? does this sound like a good idea or wont it work if you put it on a bend in the pipe? also if it does go wrong or i wrap the wrong piece will i be able to take it off?

Re: Weird Stilo Problem

How can you tell if a coil is on its way out?

My stilo sometimes chugs a little when my foot is just a say on the accelerator. Sometimes it feels like the engine wants to die when starting off at junctions too, wondered if its possibly the coil.
