the bottom end is going!!1

as above really.

noticed a noise coming from the engine last week that got extremely worse in a very short time. had to be trailered to a garage as it turns over but there is no go at all.

they haven't looked inside the engine but from the noise and the symptoms they have stated the bottom end is seriously about to go. likely items that would need to be replace are crank & case, pistons etc. also known as short motor??

so any ideas where i should go from here. i havent got the £1300+ to just get it reconditioned so i think my options are break up for spares or try and get what i can for it as is.

unless anyone knows where there is an engine for sale?

Re: the bottom end is going!!1

That's unheard of for a JTD isn't What do you reckon caused it and what oil were you using?

To look on the bright side, you only need to find a rolled JTD and the engine will almost certainly be good

they seem to be harder to find than you think.

the likely culprits are lack of oil due to blocked pipe or the tinkering (remap, induction etc.)

Re: the bottom end is going!!1

I'd imagine it's an oil issue as I gather the motor is pretty much thought to be unbreakable

For a motor that's supposed to have such poor handling (from press reviews) it's surprising you don't see a lot more written off

The truth I guess is that they don't leave the road that easily

Just keep looking Frank - it's a lot of dosh to lose otherwize.

Re: the bottom end is going!!1

my main issue is i have no car right now and need one

it was castrol edge diesel oil that was in it.

i would like to say it was oil starvation but as you say they are normally indestructible. i cant help but wonder had i stayed standard would i be in this position?

how certain are you of this? i checked the internals part numbers against the punto mk2 engine and they are the same but couldnt confirm the crank case was. if they are then that widens my search and increases my chances.

if you could confirm a VX it would really open your search

yep

the first was the turbo collapsing while driving after 7k miles.

and now less than 60k miles. so is for different reasons but same outcome.

first time was under warranty but sadly even though the car is 3 years and one month old, the 60k miles means this time its coming out of my pocket.

that would be an option but the block and crank are knackered so could only do an expensive job.

Re: the bottom end is going!!1

can you not get it running long enough to trade in and bite the dealers hadn off?

my cousin did it with a corsa with a failed head gasket, car was smoking like a steam train and wouldnt run longer than 10/15min beofe having to cool it and top it up and start again. Made sure it was polished and a big ford dealer gave him £1500 for an x reg corsa
