That's a fantastic result for that price and without any question is the way to go

Many breakers will offer some form of basic warranty on the engine - so best to check that too.

Re: the bottom end is going!!1

im not sure what condition mine is in. i think it is ok.

when the new engine is in (as i think this is the route i am going down) then i will break up and sell off parts of the surplus engine to recoup some of the money back.

Based on the history of your engine (also read John's post #31) then I'd certainly want the turbo included.

The route I took was to offer the old engine to the garage/dealer that does the job. Obviously, this only makes sense if you give the job to a Fiat specialist garage/dealer which I certainly would (useful to ask if they've ever changed an engine before too). It can be quite useful to them for spares and it's best to negotiate a fixed price for fitting the engine on that basis before they start.

Re: the bottom end is going!!1

it is a close friend that is fitting it. he was a fiat mechanic for 3 years and is now a manager/mechanic. he is just doing it for the price of parts and a few beers. (upon completion of course)

Re: the bottom end is going!!1

just thought i would give you an update:

we finished off fitting the engine to the punto last night and it runs great. now to sell it and use the money to fund the stilo.

just need to think of a price to sell the punto at?

if i started stripping the jtd engine down now would it be ok do you think? i was thinking about taking the intake manifold, intercooler and the like off to clean them out and then store them until the new engine is ready to te fitted.

Why bother - there's a good chance most of that will come with the engine (obviously not the intercooler).

If you want something to do then why not check out the bottom end and maybe fit some new bearing shells. Can't see it lasting long but then you can't end up of any worse off and it might make it mobile.
