| 1.2 Engine Fault and jolt to car Ive had my 1.2 16v active stilo for 3 years in november. Last year it came up with engine fault and the car jerked forward whilst driving and if i was idling at a junction or traffic lights it just switchs off. The computer was replaced in november and it ran fine until about a month ago and its started again.. on friday it cut out as i was driving along at 30. The screen goes all funny and asr failure, loose connection, low oil pressure lights come up. But it has had a new oil filter on. My dad had a look on sunday pulled out every wire possible sprayed the connections with wd40 and re attached them also cleaned the spark plugs and tightend the connections. Now touch wood ive drove to work yesterday and today fine without an issue. Can this really of solved the issue or is ther something else underlying? Any help greatly appreciated!

| re: 1.2 Engine Fault and jolt to car I would imagine so... if it had a wire he could pull out he will off done. Do you think it could be a battery issue?

| Shropshire UK | re: 1.2 Engine Fault and jolt to car Its possible and easy to check, was an issue on Punto models, as were dodgy earths causing oddball faults intermittently. Clean the terminals and reconnect them securely, adding some petroleum jelly. NOT grease. Ditto the earth points. Its a start.

| re: 1.2 Engine Fault and jolt to car Does the 1.2 have a crank sensor? Symtoms seem to match those on my JTD when the crank sensor went up te shoot.

| Whaddya mean too old? | re: 1.2 Engine Fault and jolt to car I'd go for the main battery earths. The crank sensor (rpm sensor) wouldnt cause the ASR warnings. Also, when the engine stops with an rpm sensor fault, it doesn't start again until it feels like it. Your low oil pressure warning comes up because it IS low oil pressure when the engine stalls away so that's normal to see that flick up The 1.2 engine is a fantastically reliable unit, mine's 9 years old now and on 110k miles but just flew through it's MOT this week and the emissions were as clean as they were when it was new- green lights all the way. Still runs as well too. It's gonna go on for ever Undo the earth lead and clean up the contact point where it attaches to the gearbox, renew the lead if you're in any doubt Check the voltage drop- one lead on the earth at the battery and put the other lead actually on a good contact on the gearbox (not on the other end of the lead) and see if there's any voltage being registered. Should be near to zero of course showing no electrical resistance between the battery earth line and the engine, anything more than 0.5v and there's your problem

| re: 1.2 Engine Fault and jolt to car ok tried all this and somehow seems worse unless its just my imagination i think im just getting fed up of the issues now! ran perfect this morning then tonight didnt wanna know wouldnt idle at the traffic lights and kept jolting when it felt like it..... strange thing is wen the oil light appeared after the engine fault and jolt if u revved as u were driving it wouldnt cut out and set of going again

| re: 1.2 Engine Fault and jolt to car i think it is some sort of connection issue everytime he plays it drives better for a few days then goes again! dont really want to take it to fiat and get charged 70quid for diagnostics and then god knows wat on top of that! Im only driving it till i get me new car its due next week... not long now!!!!
