Fitted new pads alround, brakes now screeching

Hi,

I have recently fitted new pads front and back, but since day one they screech when I pull up, it is only at slow speeds. Apart from that they work fine but it is now becoming a bit annoying (especially for cars in front of me, when I pull up at lights they hear the noise and think I have braked late and am going to hit them).

I did use fairly cheap pads, do you think it may be the compound that cheaper pads use?, also I do not use any copperslip.

Does anyone have any ideas or comments please?

Thanks

Combination of cheap pads and lack of copper slip..buying cheapo brake parts is false economy.. fiat pads have a rubber backing and that helps to stop brake squeal..

Do you think copper slip will help, or do you think I need to replace the pads again?

As PNL has said above, the rubber backing (on back of oem pads) is very important. It might be worth contacting your pad suppler and asking for some stick on backing (you must cut it to shape of the pads). Even then you still need the copper slip.

Is the squealing drives you made then you might be forced to go back to oem pads

Think the OP diagnosed the issue. The runners need a good wire brushing to clean any brakedust or rust off, then a good dose of copperslip on the runners and the back of the pads where they contact the caliper and piston. Make sure none goes on the disc of course!

I've had this in the past with previous cars. The worst offenders were Halfords own brand, followed by AP Lockheed. I've never had any issues with Ferodo Premier range and always use them. They also last fairly well. Using copper grease is always worth doing as well.

I had the similar problem when i fitted new pads on older dsks. I've ignored it, and now its fine!
