Stereo Issues

Hi guys,

I got a Stilo xbox at the start of the week -- great to drive but no bloody stereo in it!

I have a couple head units lying about the place -- connected them up and had no power --- after reading on here I see that permanent live was needed -- thats all done - but lo and behold ... Power but no sound!

There was a spark as I tried to get my head unit out - once i'd realised there was power but no sound - and found that my yellow wire had come loose from the ISO thingy!

Basically --- how do i check if it blue a fuse - i don't have a handbook with the car and can't fathom the fuses lid? and more importantly what do i do to establish why I have nothing coming from my speakers!

My first post -- sorry to be asking for assistance!!
cheers - Alan

Re: Stereo Issues

Right - I found my handbook in the "hidden" top glove box - very happy with that. Fuses found and changed - but alas still no sound out of the speakers... I have one of those factory subwoofers in the boot - could that be the source of my problems?? any assistance would be appreciated!
cheers - alan

Re: Stereo Issues

Alan, check the head unit settings. It could be all sound is sent to one particular area instead of balanced between the speakers. SLA? see if you can make a change in this setting to bring all the sound to the front.

Good luck

Re: Stereo Issues

Hi Bozzy,

Thanks for the advise -- tried that -- but no luck. I don't have a multi-meter handy -- otherwise i could have a look to see where the issue could be. headunit is playing fine - all fuses are a-ok..... too impatient to wait for the weekend to get it sorted...any other clever tricks on how to check the speakers???

Re: Stereo Issues

Put a 1,5 volt battery on the wires to the speakers to see if they pop out (or in, if you turn the battery around). You should also hear some noise at the moment you attach the wires to the battery if you can't see the speakers.

Re: Stereo Issues

You have to wire up the amp control, normally its a blue wire on aftermarket HU. There should be a single orange wire that is not part of the normal stereo wiring loom, it should have a yellow plug on the end. That has to be connected the the blue wire.

Re: Stereo Issues

Mort has the right idea, should get a click when the battery connects.

Not sure there is an amp involved, sub is powered from the head unit? I think.

Are you sure about this? This one will not have anything to do with the ignition as far as I know, and if you omit any amp remote, the amp will always stay on - so this should not be the issue at all... And where does the amp enter this picture??? It is not mentioned.

Morten.

Re: Stereo Issues

Yes i'm sure, if there is power and no sound the amp's no connected.

This is the wire u need to connect to the amp remote wire. Its orange and wire. Not orange my bad.

The amp is inside the sub box. The speaker wire's from the HU go to the sub in the boot, then from there to the speakers. Heres a pic of the multi plug that goes into the sub, with all the speaker wires going in the box then they come out using the same plug.

Sorry about the pictures they where just quick snaps.

Re: Stereo Issues

guys -- just sat down to work and with great anticipation - had a quit check to see if there were any responses...... there were 11 and i felt the tingling sensation of excitment grow!!
I dashed outside to the "black beast" (as the stilo is know to my 3 year old girl)..... and started on the process....
checked the speakers with a battery...(thanks Morty!) Check!
located orange wire with yellow head (thanks Viggers!) Check!
turn on stereo...... sweet music to my ears!

The person who had the car before has fitted some garish speakers on the parcel shelf - i've connected them up and they work but appear to be wired up to the balance incorrectly..... if i go left i just get bass and right i get both speakers... is that normal?
also -- the factory fitted speakers in the back seats now produce nothing..... guess its not a big deal as i'll have the music in the front... but always on the quest to know more!!!

thanks again guys - Bozzy - forgot to thank you!
