Rear torsion beam question??

Right just a quick one,

might be me just being picky but the rear torsion beam suspension on the stilo, its just that if i measure from the edge of my wheel to the edge of my wheel arch on the left hand side its about a 3mm gap between them

yet on the right hand side its about 10mm between them, as if the entire rear swinging arm is over to the left!,,,, is it adjustable?? to centre it or is it something done by 4 wheel tracking??

Re: Rear torsion beam question??

It's how it relates to the chassis that matters not the body and I'm pretty sure there's no adjustment anyway.

There's a huge load on the torsion beam when cornering under power so I'm sure you'd get to know about it if there was a problem

Re: Rear torsion beam question??

Mine have been changed - so will go and do the paper test when it stops raining......
Interestingly enough after 65k miles they were in good nick - although the boys at my local garage reckoned they would have been fine for another 40k they commented that the rear beam is much stiffer in place than before with the changed bushes.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: Rear torsion beam question??

Hi Steely, there is nothing to worry about wit that difference 90% of cars have that same gap the wheels (usually on the left side) are closer to the arch then the other side every car i have ever owned has been like that, i dont have a stilo but both my bravos and my van are like that.

Re: Rear torsion beam question??

Ben, just reading up in leisure lounge and that was one hell of a mess you made of one of your wheels.

To finish it off, in your position, I'd take the car for a full 4 wheel alignment check (if you haven't already). If it checks out close to normal then you'll know for certain your chassis isn't distorted. Some places charge less than £15
