The AA just got me going.

Apparantly my battery is dead and needs replacing. Been getting various errors coming up so perhaps this was a factor?

Anybody know what battery I need for a JTD?

On the top of your existing battery should be a CCA rating in amps and a aH rating - there the important ones and as its a diesel it needs a high CCA rating for those cold winter mornings.

get price of genuine fiat battery (think its 590 60a/hr) then go for equivalent at lower price if you want but stick to good make (varta/exide) & avoid cheap ones at all costs....dont need me to tell you how critical the battery is on a stilo.

Cheers for that, I will go and check now whilst it's light.

Cheers T. So you reckon it could have been the cause of spurios error messages; I wont skimp on the battery whatever happens.

Re: The AA just got me going.

what messages you getting? loose connection / power steer failure / fuel level / security etc?

you can play good gambling game called guess the error on stilos (especially JTD's) with poor batteries......place bets then put key in & turn to crank straight away (dont wait for glow plug light to go out) & then see who wins.

Re: The AA just got me going.

I'm guessing with the number of systems talking to each other now the cleanliness of the power is quite important?

Father in laws alfa 2.4 JTD used to have all sorts of strange issues until he changed the altenator and they all cleaned up. It was giving good charge voltage but was a dirty (spiked) charge. Could the car be interpreting these spikes as digital signals and thus coming up with errors?

Any regular reader of this Forum will know it's 95% certain to be the battery and the other 5% is down to bad earths.

Mine comes up with an increasing number of errors now, mainly ABS failure, stop engine etc when I start it. It's starting to become a bit annoying as I'm never quite certain if I should restart the engine (or does ABS auto reset anyway )

Still the battery is over 5.5 years old so it's done pretty well

Re: The AA just got me going.

Battery size 063 is what you need. Biggest one that will fit in a Stilo battery tray, and get one with at least 3 year warranty. Costco do cheap Varta/ Bosch batteries which are very good.
