CAT Problems... Solution Needed pos Performance ????

I have a 1.6 16v dynamic 3 door 52 plate stilo

I have been told my cat had blown. There is a massive ratttle everytime i drive the car coming from the centre box. 12 months ago i had the centre box and back box replaced so its not that. the engineer at Hi Q said the cat has blown and the ceramic parts of the cat have been forced in the centre box hence the rattling.

I have been told i need a new cat and centre box ( couldnt obtain a quote from Hi Q Fiat Quoted me £800 for a cat including fitting !!!!!!!

I am told there are two cats and it is also part of the manifold from what i can see.

I rang the local performance centre and they cant do it ( MIJ Performance) they only do cat back for my car!!!

Anyone got any idea's??? if there not much difference in price i may aswell buy Performance !

Cool Re: CAT Problems... Solution Needed pos Performance ????

Only one cat on the 1.6 and if thats gone you got a dilema ..as you have stated its part of the manifold ..cheapest option would be to get second hand froma breakers..

As of yet there isn't a performance manifold for the 1.6 but that may alter in the future [re thread on here about it ] having one custom made would cost you a bomb and as you cant have the performance cat fitted on the standard manifold I think you best option is as I have said in my first post IE get one from a reputable breaker..

Re: CAT Problems... Solution Needed pos Performance ????

dear :

You can buy the Cat converter from him
www.catman.co.uk cost around £ 280 for the whole unit but you have to get someone ( garage to fits it for you ) labour around £ 60 pounds 2 hours job .

however ,make sure you bring to few garage to check ,i had the problem before ,and they said my CAT is gone ,however i called to FIat dealership ,they told me ,they have never received and seem any fiat stilo car where the CAT was broken down .

If i were you ,i will get it recheck from a reputable garage .

Re: CAT Problems... Solution Needed pos Performance ????

A mate of mine is a mechanic, he checked mine when it "failed" lol under the bonnet, to the rear of the engine cover - there is the exhaust manifold. If you tap the manifold with a stick or somthing, you should hear no rattles. If it rattles, then the cat has broken down inside. You should also be able to smell an eggy smell, and possibly a loss in performance and even maybe an engine management light.
