| Whaddya mean too old? | Re: map sensor for fiat stilo You could cover the MAP sensor with neat crude oil (if you could afford some) and it wouldn't make any difference. A 1.6 engine will run quite happily with no MAP sensor connected at all. So tell us more, what makes you believe it is the MAP sensor? Are you getting MAP fault codes? P0105 maybe? When you say it broke down what happens? Does it not start? Does it stall? Does it not tickover? Does it have a sulk? Is it just fed up with life? Or is it suffering from low self esteem? Tell us more. The more detail you give the better answers you get

| Dislikeskeyboardwarriors | Re: map sensor for fiat stilo have a look at throttle bodycleanout in the stilo guides section.. ( up top ) this threw my engine management into thinking it was a faulty map sensor.. it was tripping engine fault every 2-3 days.. hows the idle?? does it float or is it rock steady, i clean the throttle body out atn its not played up since.. i possibly think this is also overcome by the update from fiat to.. but give it a try... i did a thread about it..

| Re: map sensor for fiat stilo Never had similar problem caused by my K&N type filter. Nor the guys on StiloClub.gr. Try to check wiring, faulty MAP sensor and/or throttle body. Does the engine management light goes off after few restarts?

| Re: map sensor for fiat stilo nope. I started up this morning, engine management light came on with warning then engine died. repeated a few times, same thing happened. if i sit with the revs up at around 2000rpm the it's ok but if you drop below that it struggles, tried driving with the car in 2nd gear it moves under its own throttle but as soon as you dip the clutch the engine dies again. i didn't have enough time before work this morning to run it to see if the same happens on a hot start, will try this afternoon. NIGHTMARE!! having a look thru the forum i can see a few things that i will try, checking/cleaning the inlet manifold for gunge, check connections on and around throttle body. Fingers crossed its something simple.

| Re: map sensor for fiat stilo On top of my head: If no message from the car (no beeps), then most likely is something like dirt in the inlet. If in full throttle you get sit backs then maybe is something with your fuel system. If you getting a message, what does it says? Check and the sparks just in case... When did you had your last service?

| Re: map sensor for fiat stilo
however, the engine management light remains in the dash, i have been told by a local auto electrics shop that once a fault registers it is logged until it is clearer by a diognostics machine, evern if you have sorted the fault yourself? Is this the case, and is there a way of clearing it myself? cheers

Not always succesfull of course. If you have throttle body problem, the management light will go off after a few restarts. If your MAP is faulty, the management ligh will stay on. Even if you replace the damn part. You 'll need to reset it. Can't be done by yourshelf. Needs some kind of expert s/w (i did it on my electricians shop - NOT Examiner). Or a visit to your local bucher...eeerr, FIAT dealership.

| Whaddya mean too old? | Re: map sensor for fiat stilo A standard fault code reader will erase the code so no problems there. A 1.6 will ignore the MAP sensor if it detects any problems there and relies on pretty good guesswork from it's in built MAP chart. Your mpg won't be at it's best by a long way though Erasing the code will also reset the ECU for it to relearn the best settings again so it's important to find the fault and erase the code
