newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

Hi everyone joined few days ago picked up my 2002 1.8 5door manual stilo

few things i was worried or just looking for some advice are:

ive ordered a full service kit including pollen filter and cambelt kit with tensioner including delivery for 125 all genuine fiat boxed new parts. is this a good price or a rip off?

when starting the car, it starts first time but sometimes there is abit of up and down on the rev meter only occassionally.

when driving if im in 2nd, 3rd or 4th as 5th doesnt really do this. If im accelerating and let go of the accelarator get a small noticeable jerk. any ideas anyone?

other than that the car is ok well this is all ive picked up with my non mechanic brain.

kind regards

Re: newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

Welcome and well done for your choise!

I feel that you should see a couple of things.

First of all have the air intake system cleaned. Especially the accelerator throttle body.
And since you are going to change and the air filter, you 'll solve the jumpy revs.

Optionally (but recomended by me at least) have a good check for your battery wiring. Especially the earth. If needed, add extra earth wiring. That solved a problem with jumpy revs for me. Had it over a year and everything is OK!

Finally you could try fulling the fuel and add any cleansing product like VARDA or smthing. That will clean your fuel line circuit.

Cheers!

Re: newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

finally thanks for your reply ioannidis i was worried about the fiats and after asking few people they said the engines are good on the car there is some wear and tear inside the car but what can you expect for a 5-6 year old car.

i mean the cleaning of the air intake system and throttle body would be extra money wouldnt it as ive been quoted £140 to carry out service and cambelt change as im supplying the parts which i have sourced for 125.

how much is the fuel system cleaner and how am i able to do so ive just filled a full tank of petrol today.

Re: newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

This fuel cleanner shouldnt be more than 1/2 lt. I cant help you where to find, since i'm bit far from ya...

The cleanning of the air intake its not too difficult. You'll need a spray that cleans trhottle bodies etc. and a new air filter. That's bit difficult on you motor (i think).

I cannot predict a cost of all of these case i'm not in UK and don't know how they "move"...

Re: newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

ok so what manufacturer or what product you recommend for the fuel cleaner and also you say i should poor/add half a litre in.

well in your opinion if they are doing a service and changing the air filter you think its not a long job then for them to do the extra work for cleaning the throttle body, air intake pipe im guessing would be done with common sense if they are accessing the air filter correct?

appreciate all your help im not very mechanical minded but know a little

Re: newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

I occasionally (wrote it wright?) use STP Injection cleaner.

Yes, once they rip off half of your car, i suppose it'll be easy for them.
The throttle body is in the end of the air pipe line (after the filter and just before the engine). Make sure to remove the line pipping near the throttle and spray it to remove the dirt.

Dont forget the battery and earth wiring check! Very Important for our power-delicate Stilos...

Re: newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

thanks ive dropped the car back to the private dealer to get the tracking done as it slightly pulls to the left and also about the jerky feeling when depressing clutch pedal when changing and also when driving and depressing the accelerator pedal. im very curious as why the car does this.

my vw passat needed a adjustment.

Looks like it's costing you £265 for cam belt change and service which is not too bad although depends on what's included in the service?

Not sure I understand why you're supplying parts as this can be important when considering the warranty for the work

Keep in mind that until recently the FiatCare main dealer price for cam belt change is only £150 (full belt kit + labour)

for a £115 service (265-150) I'd hope you're getting an oil and filter change (with a decent oil too) rather than a top up

Re: newbie 1.8 dynamic 02 5dr needs some advice

f'in hell but if its new and under warranty got to be done lol i had a 2006 micra 1.2s got told £375 for a service from glyn hopkin nissan romford as the car was from there with a 2 year warranty i ended up paying 25 for genuine parts and couple hundred from a local garage. but thats what i meant a oil change and relative top ups etc 140 and all together full service and cambelt kit for 125 delivered to my doorstep all genuine fiat parts the cambelt kit alone is cheaper than shop4parts at 75 and 50 for the filters, plugs etc

IS THE SUSPENSION ESPECIALLY FRONT KNOWN TO BE NOISY? ESPECIALLY OVER BUMPS? ALSO GOING OVER UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES NOT SPEED BREAKERS BUT CONSIDERABLE BUMPS HEAR A FAINT RATTLE TYPE SOUND ANY IDEAS? OR COULD IT JUST BE SOMETHING LIKE THE PARCEL SHELF OR IN SPARE WHEEL AREA? IVE HAD A CHECK IF ANYTHING IS MOVING IN THE BOOT, NOTHING.

THANKS
