Re: Accelerator

You can't. If it is running badly, then you need to fix the fault.

If you are just annoyed by the engine vibration at idle, we all are. There is nothing that can be done except put your foot on the accelerator a bit while at the traffic lights.

Re: Accelerator

A disabled (or defective) EGR valve can cause excessive vibration at very low engine revs - as I discovered when messing around with mine.

Re: Accelerator

there is definatley an adjustment. i was only looking at it yesterday. it either adjusts the opening or the closing? if opening then you are right you cant adjust it manually but if its for closing then that would adjust idle speed?

Unhappy Re: Accelerator

I'd imagine you're looking at the (factory) adjustment that stops the butterfly from jamming in the throttle body.

Mess with that and it's "Wey Hey - Look at all the money I've got to burn!"

Re: Accelerator

but if you screw it out, (it looks like a screw adjustment) then would that not increase tickover idle speeds.

Re: Accelerator

All you have to ask yourself is what's the price of a replacement throttle body (plus work of fitting it)

Many of these adjustments are made in the factory and can't easily be reset (even with full workshop manual). Messing around with controls which aren't supposed to be touched is about as dumb as it gets

Start with with just one fault and then the next thing you know you've got two...three...four faults - and even worse - you've created more faults just to cover up an existing fault

Many of us have done really stupid stuff like that at one time or another (I have) - but you don't do it twice.

Re: Accelerator

diesels are not like petrol engines. You can not adjust the idle speed by adjusting the butterfly valve. The ECU needs to be told to inject more fuel and change the timing. This is done via the accelerator pedal while driving. Introducing more air will not make the slightest bit of difference to idle speed.
Also, I believe it is not wise to adjust the accelerator pedal stop as it may cause it to throw error codes.

Re: Accelerator

Cheers lads was wondering where the cable was to adjust the fuel pump what a carry on all this modern stuff. Well i will just have to keep foot pressed down i suppose, would be nice if things were easy like they used to be.
Cheers

Lightbulb Re: Accelerator

Why not pay for say half an hour on Examiner?

It's almost certain to find one fault if your idle speed to too low.
