Exhaust heat shield

I've been having a problem with my exhaust. When it gets hot it reverberates at the front where the flexi section meets the front section. I'm not sure but I think it could be due to the heat shield. I have had the flexi section replaced under warranty 3 times (independant garage/timex exhaust) but the problem returns after a few weeks.

I was wondering if removing the heat shield would cause any problems. I know it's not ideal, but the noise is seriously doing my swede in
Cheers

Re: Exhaust heat shield

Really ought to leave it in, it's there for purpose which you'll find out when you get that burning smell on the motorway and then everything goes dead.

Find out what's loose or what's touching and have to sort it

Cool Re: Exhaust heat shield

Wholeheartedly agree with decks here its there to serve a purpose..some of the shields are just held in with push studs and just need pushing back up into place..crap way of holding them in but its a fiat after all cheap and cheerful..

Re: Exhaust heat shield

Cheers fellas.

Just confirmed what I already knew deep down. Clutching at straws I suppose.

I have tapped the heat shield in various places and it certainly rattles. I am quite certain this is the problem. I have also had a go at bending it about a bit to stop if fouling the exhaust, but to no avail.

It must just be that it has come slightly loose somewhere and the rattle caused by this is emphasised when the heat shield gets hot.

Oh well, more crawling about under the front of the car I suppose.
