Re: Abarth Wont Start

With "loose connection" warning (and for that think "lost connection") then sounds like its your crank sensor. If the ecu can't work out where the engine is....
"There it is, silly, under the bonnet, same as it always is"
No, i mean , what angle the crank and pistons are then it doesn't know when to squirt fuel in and fire so it won't bother as it might all go bang at the wrong time

Do a search for "crank sensor" and you should find all the info you need

Re: Abarth Wont Start

Now how can a battery be OK and knackered?

If the engine is turning strongly then it won't be a problem wth the battery

Ok where is the crank sensor?
Yours is like the JTDs and you have a phonic wheel set up, so you have a wheel connected to the crankshaft like this. So if you can imagine where that is, at the flywheel end of the engine, then it will be in line with that

your rpm sensor pick up is around the back of your engine i believe.

The connector for it is here (No.1) so you could just follow the cable down. But make sure this connection is good first as this will give you the same symptoms of "loose connection" and no life at start up. Undo and redo it and test if it works (yeah, as if you could get that lucky)

So the crank sensor itself is buried around the back of the engine somewhere here shown as 2a and 2b. Just one bolt and it's out

Re: Abarth Wont Start

i now it sounds like im a numpty ,but when fault occured ,engine was turning over ,untill battery went flat (about 5 try's).was also reading some other threads about asr warning light just after starting ,and most say its a volts issue , as i somtimes have this also we decided to volt test the battery and would you believe it the things knackerd .so just got myself a heavy duty battery ,put it on ,and it looks like job done.with only having my baby for 4 months wasn't aware of how it should sound on start up.turns over a lot faster now (with the added bonus of starting ). have all incvoices for car and looks like origianal battery ,on 02 plate so a big up for fiat batterys

Re: Abarth Wont Start

That's great!
If it suddenly won't start again though when it gets hot then you'll know what it is- quite a common fault on Stilos with the phonic ring/crank sensor pick up. They cool down and then they will often start again. Keeps you on your toes!

Re: Abarth Wont Start

As deckchair will tell you, ive had this "loose connection" error, but mine turned out to be the crank sensor. It cost me peanuts to buy a new one, and fitted it in less than 20 minutes. If your problem comes back one day ( I think it will), then let me know. I took loads of pics when i changed it.

Re: Abarth Wont Start

This happened to me last weekend with my JTD. Drove 70 miles to pick up a mate for a 100 mile journey, get to his alright, drive off and 10 seconds later, loose connection appears and my car cuts out.

Left it there a week, came to pick it up, fired up first time no problems and got home alright. Will keep an eye on it.
