Stilo JTD, is it worth remapping???

I get my stilo 2moz and cant wait. I've been doing a bit of research into remapping and the results look pretty impressive, for about £300 I can have an extra 40 or so bhp, lovely. But is it worth doing? Because I'm scared that if I get it remapped it could cause problems elsewhere, i.e. clutch slipping. What experiences have people had when they have remapped their JTD's and should I do it??

Cheers

It took 30k for my clutch to start slipping following a re-map. I upgraded to a performance clutch last week. Is it worth it, you bet it is.

It is not worth it, especially if you are young because technically you have to tell your insurance company if you want to be covered in the event of a crash and they will increase your premium a lot because of it.

I am sure most don't bother declaring it though and just hope for the best.

The choice is yours.

General opinion is that re-maps are not found... but I guess they are gettin wised up to it now and could start looking if they are Suss...

Re-maps can be detected with the relevant software. The dealers haven't got the time to get into it. And thay don't want to loose clients.

@ john55 - It depends entirely on the insurance. I am with HIC and their 'penalties' for modifying are more than reasonable.

Re: Stilo JTD, is it worth remapping???

I suppose it depends on how you wright the car off. I personally am going to get a remap done...eventually and not tell a soul. I don't plan on totalling my Stilo. If somone smashes you, then it's unlikely that your car will be closely examined unless you have some obvious modifications like a carbon bonnet, 18" rims and a dustbin exhaust.

Drive sensibly in any car and you won't have to worry. A 165bhp Stilo JTD is not a power house of a car but will supprise the unwary and deserves a little respect when driven.

Re: Stilo JTD, is it worth remapping???

most, if not all, companies that remap cars will say that any issues that could arise would have done so anyway just maybe further down the line.

what i would say is choose the company wisely and before you go for the remap get your car checked out for any possible issues. as after the remap the issues will be magnified.

Took around 58k for my clutch to start slipping, which is quite impressive.

it's next to impossible that an insurance company will find it out, but like some people said it's up to you.

I think best thing to do is keep the power as it is for the moment and when you get that urge you need more power go for a remap, you wont be dissapointed.

Re: Stilo JTD, is it worth remapping???

not worth it for £300 when you can come to a rr day and get it done for £199 and have before and after rr graphs so you can see what you have bought

They can be detected but it would be difficult to prove that the current owner was responsible for the remap on a secondhand car.

And yes, it is worth every penny, just make sure you use a reputable company.

Here you go, link courtesy of Stilosporting (Frank)

http://www.clutch-specialists.co.uk/search_result.asp

£135 delivered I think. When motor-mech (specialist) fitted it he said it was a beast of a clutch, much bigger & better than the standard. Now I have a clutch bite of 10mm.

Well I used 'Celtic' myself, covered 15,000 miles since inc MOT with no problems . I believe 'Angel Tuning' are good as well.
