koni springs

Hi, sorry for me ( possibly ) being stupid !!

Ive just fitted a set of 40mm koni lowering springs to the front my stilo and im not sure but it seems to look higher !

Could this be because.....

1) i have fitted wrong ones to the front ( i fitted the longer ones with evenly space coils )

2) i havnt fitted the rears yet due to the typical british weather !!!

cheers Rich

Re: koni springs

You've got it in one - you've fitted the wrong springs for your car.

The rears will most likely be correct but of course it will only make the car look even more odd.

This has come up before - try searching for say "Koni springs"

Re: koni springs

chrismclark had exactly the same problem, appatenly the springs were designed for the WHOLE stilo range, which includes the heavier abarths and diesels, therefore the springs dont drop as they should on the 1.2/1.4/1.6/1.8s

Re: koni springs

I ordered from Larkspeed in Leeds and they were aware of the 2 different types of springs for the front when i ordered as I was asked the front axle weight when ordering because they said the koni's were no good if i had the diesel or abarth.

If you're only bothered about cosmetics then it doesn't matter what you fit but if you want to maintain good handling then everyone raves about -30mm Eibach.

Go any lower and you'll need to change standard dampers (which then starts to get expensive )

Re: koni springs

cheers, just spoke to larkspeed where i bought the konis from and he has agreed to credit me for them if i get them returned !

I am not bothered about the looks too much, so it looks like eibach -30mm is the way to go.......i only changed in the first place because of the same old story of the standard ones snapping

thanks Rich

Been intouch with Larkspeed who i got the koni's off and they are willing to do a part-ex, the konis for eibach -30's.......the problem is that they dont have the eibachs in for 2-3 weeks

Is it essential to change the dampers if i fit the -50 eibach sports or is it just advisable to ? i dont wanna get em only to find out that i need dampers aswell once fitted

cheers, Rich

Re: koni springs

Rich,
the OE dampers aren't that great to start with, if you lower it 50mm then the damper will already be partially compressed so they'll be even less effective.
You can get away from OE dampers on -30mm springs but i'd recommend changing the lot if you go -50mm.
Just my opinon though

Re: koni springs

I completely agree with minimad

I fitted -35mm (but Pi's not Eibach) to mine and there's no question it degraded the handling on imperfect A & B roads. If you take a really fast curse and hit a pothole that the damper can't handle then you'll bounce - and there's only one place you're going to end up

Wait the 2/3 weeks - it isn't that long

Re: koni springs

Spend the money and get the Eibachs that match the springs you want or Bilstein are highly recommended, neither are cheap though.
Suspension is definately an area where you get what you pay for.
