Re: Pre Heat Fault Stilo jtd...Can anyone Help?

no, there is a 16v plug listed seperately listed at £9.32 which is the cheapest,
i've got a part number from eper but you can't cross reference that number with shop4parts.
Anyone???

QUESTION
will a strutbrace be in the way of the plugs?

There's a picture of one that's gone in my JTD in the the Guide section.

Re: Pre Heat Fault Stilo jtd...Can anyone Help?

visited dealer today, £11ish +VAT per plug, so booked in for tuesday to do all 4, £130 all in not bad considering my local Garage wanted £120 and they wern't genuine Fiat plugs.
Also got them to visually check the strutbrace won't be an issue and the Service manager didn't seem to think it would be, phew!
roll on Tuesday so the beeps will end.

I was trying to make sense of your post (why would you change all 4 ) until I realized you can't check which ones are faulty because of the strutbrace

That's a real bummer but are you sure it's not worth removing it

I was going to fit one to mine but returned it when I found the fuel filter was in the wrong place. I'm really glad I did as I've had 3 heater plugs replaced in the last 3 years (one being false but I got to reuse that one ) so could easily do without changing the damn thing every time

Total cost to me for glow plugs & fitting (over nearly 3 years) is £71.02 + VAT

As you say it's nice to have a BEEP FREE startup

I just dont get some of you guys, Why on earth not change all 4 at one, its not as if they are £20 a pop. For something thats cheap and to stop getting these error codes really does make sence.

You would only chance one spark plug would you!!!!

Re: Pre Heat Fault Stilo jtd...Can anyone Help?

I'm with you Muppet in that I wanted to change all 4 due to the mileage my car has covered (nearly 110,000 miles), i thought to change the offending one would be OK but the rest are bound to go in the future.
For approx £14 each from dealer they're not exactly cheap but as it's something I can't do myself (this time) i'm reluctantly getting a garage to do it.

Argo,
I was i think the first after Becky to fit a brace to the JTD and made my own brackets for the fuel filter and associated fuel lines. It's easy and if done properly and lowered just enough there are no issues about bits of plastic touching hot things like Stilosporting found out!
As i've fitted it with nuts & bolts rather than self tappers you can't just whip it off unfortunately.

If you read my Guide it should make sense - for starters - it may not even stop the error beep - you can't beat basic diagnosis.

Aside from the cost factor (OK so you've got money to burn ) it's not a particularly green practice - changing stuff when it doesn't need changing.

Why on earth do you think garages like to change all 4 - it's just a quick earner

Sorry but it's a hot topic for me - there's just too much bloody waste in our society

Re: Pre Heat Fault Stilo jtd...Can anyone Help?

Sorry Argonought i dont buy that arguement. I just do not see the point in replacing one and then waiting for the others togo if one has gone. And besides they are not making them for you are they, already made.

And as for changing all 4 then yes i will aways change all four at the same time just as if one spark plug needed changing then again all four would be changed.
Yes agree there is too much waste but 3 extra glow plugs which will end up being replaced at some point in the future!!!!

You know if you are going to that extreme then do you only replace the brake pads that are worn, or just the one tyre and then other 3 weeks down the road or i could go on.

And i do try my best not to waste much, i shop in the local butchers and get all my veg from riverford organics, Buy very little from supermarkets and make sure if i do it was made, grown in this country and i also have fairtrade cotton bags bought from the co-op and dont use plastic bags. I have all low energy lightbulbs and a rated kitchen appilances, And because of the price of diesel drive like my gran mother did, Eg slowly and carefully!!!!!

So yes bring this stuff up about being green but dont just assume you are the only one that cares about it, We all do stuff to help even if we dont sing from the rooftops about it.

The trouble is though that argument is based pretty much on falsehood.

It's one thing to change items in sets in say the military or aviation industries when you know the parts you're fitting have to match a certain precise spec. but the automobile industry has to meet nothing like such strict requirements.

I can assure you, in the electronics industry it's entirely possible to replace a working used part with a new component and end up with a system which is LESS reliable. What is irrefutable is that if you replace a defective component with a working component then it's clear to everyone that you've improved matters.

But...... replace a working component with another working component (that just happens to come out of a new box) then the outcome in terms of improved reliability is far from certain. I presume you realize a glow-plug is not like a spark plug which does indeed wear and degrade with use and should be replaced in sets.

Here's my direct experience with my Stilo glow-plugs
Cylinder 1 - Replaced once
Cylinder 2 - Still original
Cylinder 3 - Still original
Cylinder 4 - replaced TWICE!

The illogic of changing all 4 every time one fails I think you'll agree is very clear

Of course, this only relates to glow plugs and I certainly wouldn't apply the same principal to things like pads, discs and tyres or indeed spark plugs as I've already mentioned.

And i do try my best not to waste much, i shop in the local butchers and get all my veg from riverford organics, Buy very little from supermarkets and make sure if i do it was made, grown in this country and i also have fairtrade cotton bags bought from the co-op and dont use plastic bags. Good for you
