Yep, they're covered quite well if you search for them.

You can certainly disconnect the MAF sensor connector at any time but you'll need to set aside perhaps an hour, and have a good toolkit, to block off the EGR valve.

You can easily disconnect the electrical connector on the EGR valve but this wont help if the valve is mechanically jammed open.

He has an MJET 16 valve engine. Quite a different animal to the 8V JTD's most of us drive, and most posts on here relate to. EGR will be different for sure and the usual problem is them sticking open, which removing the connector wont cure.

That's a fair comment and I was going to mention it might be a bit different but thought they might be fairly similar

.....which is of course what I just said

Re: Blue Smoke on Start-up

well i'll try unplugging the maf sensor and see what happens as they said could be either.

i'm guessing this wont do any damage to the engine?

Having listened to the sound of it, I'd say that's the least of your worries

Seriously though if it's under warranty then perhaps you should throw it back at the dealer as silly to risk any chance of voiding it

Re: Blue Smoke on Start-up

Spoke to them this morning, parts have arrived but I'm away on a course next week so it's not going in until the 14th.

Looking forward to seeing whether the fix works or not!

Re: Blue Smoke on Start-up

Ok going to pick up the car later on today - everything is fixed apparently

Will (should) i be able to tell that a faulty egr and faulty maf sensor have been replaced? Anything to look out for in particular?

Re: Blue Smoke on Start-up

I did but you never know with these dealers

Took my Corsa to the Vauxhall dealership once, diagnosed £400 of problems

Took it back to have the work done, and they did something else

In fact it's running so well i may spend some more money on it

Re: Blue Smoke on Start-up

Hi, just joined the Forum. I have a Stilo 150 Multijet Sporting Nov 2006. I have been reading this thread, and guess what? I to have blue smoke at start up, masses of it.

My dealer tells me its fuel, however, I think its oil. I have had a new ECR and MAF, and neither of these have fixed the problem. My dealer has had my car on and off for about 2 weeks trying to fix this without luck. I am currently monitoring the problem post a new coolant sensor. Still no improvement.

I have just spent all night reading the Fiat workshop manual trying to get a understanding of how the engine works. Please post your findings following your cars return?

Re: Blue Smoke on Start-up

Will let you know tomorrow morning after my drive to work!

Looks like we could have 2 that came from the same shift at the factory

EDIT: Has he looked at the valve stem seals? These days dealers seem to be obsessed with sensors, never actually considering any mechanical problems!

If mine is still smoking tomorrow then i'll be calling them up!
