| My coolant leak Was, well hopefully now I've paid to have it fixed, the water pump double sealing 'O' ring. Mine was leaking when the car was cold. £139 later I am hoping it will stop dripping out every night! Seems to have a lot of black sealer round it now!!! Presume this is an extra precaution? Anyone else had this seal go on a Stilo? Thanks

| Brain freeze | Re: My coolant leak Where did you get the work done? What engine is it? It is a little worrying that they have used a sealant to fix this. Ordinarily, pump seals are part of the bearing assy. These are seldom replaced and it is usually necessary to replace the pump. A replacement pump on mine was just under £35 from FIAT and I had it fitted when I got my cam belt done so I didn't really incur any extra cost. Can you give us some more info on what work was carried out?

| Re: My coolant leak I was told the manifold etc had to come off to get the black pipe out of the water pump housing. Then in there they would replace the O Ring as that was the source of the leak. 1.4 16V There is black sealant stuff visible on the black pipe now. Main thing currently is it didn't leak out last night ![]() Also they have only topped the coolant up to the MIN mark when car is cold. Would have thought they should have topped up to MAX? Charged me £8 for antifreeze too!! Any further views? Cheers

| Whaddya mean too old? | Re: My coolant leak There's not too many people with the 1.4 engine so there's very little experience of them and precious little information. I've never seen one and have no idea of the engine layout so i would post up relevant pictures of your engine when asking as I would guess few people know where everything is. With water pumps then some cars have no "o" ring or gasket at all and are sealed purely with the black mastic. I would guess they've gone for both on yours. As long as it seals...... Air bubbles in the system will take a little while to come to the surface so always keep an eye on the coolant level for the first few days until it's all gone through and settled

| Re: My coolant leak Still sealed after 60 mile journey! Hopefully you are right and they have added the sealer as an extra. I have been charged £4 for a double O ring.
