hi, i have a stilo 1.9jtd on 02 plate the last couple of days at random as i turn the key to start the car i have all the right lights on the dash but the engine keeps turning over with no start, then i get a message saying loose conection, then after 2 or 3 attemps the car will start with no error warnings then continue to start for so many times untill i get this message again, is there any thing i should look for b4 i take the car to be tested many thans john hahn

hi thanks for the reply of my fault, since i last posted the problem no more probs ,but guess what today loose conection warning coming on now when driving but going straight off again & letting me still get about as normal ,do you know where i would get a cheap error code reader as tryed halfords but they said it's no good on the modern car the 1 they sell, looked on ebay but the choice of only 1 from china but that doesn't look wright to me as well, thanks john

thanks i will give that a look, looking at other threads some people talk about a d4 sensor as i have looked at all the other points to look at, where would i find this d4,perhaps this might solve the prob

It's a connector called D4 which is the connector for the spinal cord of wires which connects just about everything in the engine bay to the car interior. Have a look in the Stilo guides above as there's piccies in there to help you on your way

spent the morning checking ,cleaning, all clip 2gether blocks , pulled fuse's,relays ,d4,used a very good contact cleaner, changed battery as had a spare, the car started well ,went like a rocket untill i pulled up on drive way , u guessed it cut out with loose conection & woundn't start ,after 5 min went well again untill i got near home then cut out & was able to cruise onto driveway, got an error reader on the way from that site you sent me decks ,he was very helpful in return of emails ,so hoping now that i can at last sought this problem on my beloved stilo as dread to think what fiat will charge for a repair in i can't get this soughted

now its saying low oil pressure & cutting out, please hurry up error reader as i feel its not safe to drive anymore?

after another annoying week of stopping with the loose connection problem i managed at last to get fiat to test the car, the error code reader i bought read all the car data, but when the fault happerned the reader kept saying no codes, fiat have got the rpm sensor playing up ,where's the rpm sensor is that the crank sensor?

at last a new crank sensor fitted & a pleasure to drive with no loose conection message's thanks decks for steering me in the direction of the fault.

I have just ordered a new crank sensor for my abarth, hopefully to solve this loose connection problem im having.
hi mate did you solve the prob with your loose conection code as since i changed the crank shaft sensor the stilo is going like a dream

My car also cuts out and does this. I have been told by someone on the fiat forum that it could be the sensor on the cam belt which affects the timing or something like that. I'd be interested to here what it says the problem is as I took mine to garage and no error was recorded.
