(T) Cam Belt Snapped on Abarth

Hi Guys,

Cam belt snapped on my Abrath 2002 83k last night i was travelling around 80mph when the engine mangement light came on and when the good old AA arrived 2hrs later was to told that the bottom is spinnng but the top end is not and that the cam belt has gone.

I'm wondering if there will be any engine damage by me travelling at 80 mph? or could i be luckly enough to get away with a new cam belt and tensions?

Almost a certainty of engine valve/piston damage. Was that the original belt and tensioner?

Its was the the original belt and tensions

5 years or 72k miles whichever comes first.

More than likely there will be engine damage, probably a hefty bill coming your way

I have been quoted min around the 250.00 for belt and tensions if there is no damage and if the values need to replaced around the 600.00 for all the values so i be looking close to a grand to get this repaired

Managed to pull the side cover, and its all nice and loose in there

Bring back the timing chain campaign!
I would guess the cost to customers worldwide of timing belt damage to be near the debt of the 3rd world

Same thing with cable clutches, what a stupid idea that was

Well i have learnt my lesson should have got it changed

Lets just hope i havent damanged many valves and no other damage

Just an update, all 20 vavles have gone so a new head is required

bad luck mate, mine is due this year as it is 5 years old now, lets hope ppl learn from your mistake not to risk it at all.
