Rear Tyre Wear

The rear tyres on a Stilo wear very slowly as basically they just follow the front ones. I thought I`d check mine some time ago and on doing so I found the n/s rear 1.5mm down on the outside edge. The tyre had only gone 9500 miles.
I informed my Dealer who carried out a 4 wheel alignment check and they said it needed the rear hubs and bearings replaced on both sides, which they did. They then re-checked the alignment and found it had only moved 0.5 degrees. After contacting FIAT it has been agreed to replace the axle/subframe in order to get the alignment within tolerance. They tell me this should cure it.

The reason I am posting this thread is to bring to members attention that this problem exists. FIAT are well aware of it judging by the official paperwork describing remedial action which I have seen.
Rear tyres do wear a lot slower than front ones and this is partly responsible for the problem not being spotted in time....before the Warranty has expired.

My advice is to check your rear tyres for un-even wear now.

I think your advice is good, I took my car in for geometry check as the front tyres were wearing out and it was found to have the o/s rear axle was bent. No visible signsof damage according to garage so fiat replaced axle under warranty. Checked with the garage a few days later and they told me the car went back to them 3 times with different axles until they found a straight one. Could be a production problem somewhere [:(!]
