painting engine cover

Right I've searched and can't find anything, but I've just got up so I may have not looked properly

I want to paint my engine and battery cover silver. I'm a complete beginner at painting so what do I need to do?

I understand I need to get some heat resistant paint silver, blue and white.

do I need to sand the cover down till it's nice and smooth and got rid of all the nobbly bits? lol

Cheers

Cool Re: painting engine cover

Tiz easy young Dan give your engine and battery cover a damn good clean [make sure there is no gease etc on them]and give then a light rubbing down to key the surface of them I used Hammerite smooth thats the one without the hammer pattern and it hasnt been affected by heat at all so there you are as I said tiz easy Oh if you dont feel happy with a spray then brush it on

Hammerite dries very quickly in warm weather so try and pick a warm day [hard I know at this time of year]you dont need to sand down the dimples LOL you will be there forever just a light sanding just to key it for the paint to take to the surface and use the same make of undercoat as top coat hammerite is not compatible with some paints and you can only re coat hammerite within a certain time period read the instructions on the tin
