Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

You probably can, but whether a standard stereo would be worth connecting an amp to is the question you should be asking. I would sort out a better head unit and replace the speakers before thinking about an amp

It can be done - don't you just "split the rear chanels from the headunit to the high pass inputs on your amp."

there are many threads about this osrt of subject if you do a search for it... although i can tell you now that no one has been able to do this so far

most of us have gone for an aftermarket headunit when wanting to run amp/extra speaker set ups

although be aware you will loose your steering wheel controls if you go for this option as i havent found an adaptor yet for the steering wheel controls to get them working! ....well for an aftermarket alpine unit anyway!

EDIT: ok maybe im wrong stu still i dont know anyone on here who has done it!

Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

see I do want to change the stereo but as some of you say I wll loose my steering controls for the stereo. All my speakers are really good in my car as it is so I wouldnt want to change my speakers. The stereo isn't bad either!

Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

Do you want an amp to power a sub? Or one to power the speakers? Because the standard speakers won't take too kindly to being driven by an amp, they weren't designed for it

Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

There is a connector for the back of the standard stereo to give it pre outs, think thats how the optional extra sub is fitted to the stereo not sure though. I bought it for mine but then never got round to wiring in the rest of the amp. So its just sitting in a cupboard somewhere, if i can find it, your welcome to it...

Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

oh thanks guys.. I have brought the amp and the sub. Tried wiring it up yesterday but we couldnt find a gromet for the power cable from the battery to the inside. I am trying to connect and amp and sub in my boot to the stereo. I dont want to change main stereo though! I maybe a girl but I'm not stupid as to want to amp up my stereo just for the baby speakers in the car!

Well that's fine then, you should be able to connect the amp to the standard HU, but I don't own a Stilo so don't ask me how to do it And how was I to know you didn't want to connect an amp to the standard speakers, you never said what the amp was going to be connected to

Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

I know folks who have added a amp to the standard Headunit, it can be done by using the CD changer ignition live run to the amp live and the rear speaker chanels split and wired into the high pass on the amp. Live and earth cables are wired in the normal way (if you can get the live through the bulkhead).

I still think its better to junk the standard head unit and buy a aftermarket
MP3/IPOD player, it does make installation that much more simple.

If anyone going to Brooklands wants to know how I will be happy to show them.

Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

ive done it and it took me 30 mins from start to finish ;-)

you need to split the red power lead to the standard head unit and put a switch in it or you amp will be perminenly on and just drain the battery!!
then just wire it up like a normal sub/amp set up!!

sounds mint too!!!

why dont you buy my stilo and then its already done for you

Re: Can a manufactured stilo stereo take an amp?

If its the connect nav+ ...............

At the back (iso) remote = C6 and if you connect A2 to the remote the radio turns the speaker-out as a line-out. voila.. (use at own risk)...
