Re: Screen on center console

My mate has a car computer in his Nissan 100NX, its not as good as it sounds. Plus, the Stilo's wiring would make it difficult. Im not sure how it would be wired up because of the difficulties of the electronic system. I would personally leave it well alone. And it would make it more stealable

Re: Screen on center console

looked into this and decided against it. unless you plan on amping all of the speakers with an aftermarket amp, then it's going to be really hard work. only conceivable way of doing it easily with a flip out monitor and standard stereo with line in both fitted into the standard stereo recess.

Then you have to run the monior cables, usb cable, power cables, sort out a wake on power up arangement and auto shutdown proc......

Worth it if you have the time/knowledge/money but i'm perfectly happy listening to my tunes on a nice stereo!

I would agree with that And what are you going to do with it anyway? Type an essay while driving?? Go on the Internet?? Surely you dont need that level of stuff in your car, a decent head unit will work just as well and a lot cheaper

The premise of mine was to store all my music (10gb), some movies, photos etc and have a second screen in the back. Movies would be for passenger amusement only or on the rare occasion i might get stuck in traffic. You could also have things like an integrated sim card for 3G internet for passengers etc, wifi, reversing camera, IR front camera, various USB devices, card reader (if you fill your camera up with pictures of the car you can download them all to the car pc ), the possibilities are seemingly endless. The benefit of wifi would be seemless sync'ing of all my files. Say i updated my itunes folder with a couple of albums, they'd be copied to the car automatically.

I have all the software and stuff in place, just not a screen or 19v regulator. My thinking in the end though was: "How long do i actually spend in my car, and is it cool enough that i can justify doing it?"

Tobias if you want to go for this i have an HP e-pc with a 1ghz P3, 1GB ram and a 20GB hard disk that runs off a 19v psu if you want something cheap to mess around with?! It has the handy feature of coming on if it senses 19v (i.e. when you plug it in or turn it on at the wall), so would power up on ignition!

it was bought with inspiration from here:

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...my-02-bmw.html

if you do end up doing it and want any advice/help then just give me a bell!

Re: Screen on center console

In that case you'd need either an aftermarket stereo with line in and somewhere to mount it, or a 2/4ch amp and some cable!

Re: Screen on center console

Just to warn you in that case that it could end up being an expensive job! If you're half decent with a screwdriver and have a spare day then wiring up an amp should be no problem, just do some searches on here to find out the relevant info!

By the time you've bought all the kit and paid someone to fit it you could just get one of these!

Re: Screen on center console

Hi mate, ive got a 8" touchscreen grafted in to a hand made fascia that i made for my abarth, but ive lost interest. It looks like a standard part that should have been there. Ive got loads of other bits for a car pc too, such as power supply designed for in car pc, ive also got loads of car pc software too.

Its also very easy to connect up a car pc to a stilo with the use of a simple relay ( which i also have pre-wired).

Let me know if you wanna buy any of my parts. See pic of fascia below
