Rear Spoiler

Hi all

On saturday night my rear spoiler was broken which i have to say i was most unimpressed about. n e way i've got a new one on order and was just wondering if any of you knew how it was fixed so that i could get it sprayed up and fitted myself?

also how do you go about taking the old one off.

any help would be very gratefully received.

Re: Rear Spoiler

i broke my schumi spoiler just b4 i was about to put it on, primed sprayed and laquered and all =[

a fireplace landed on top of it

is its just the lip then it will more than likely be held on with a compound like power adhesive, its like a more solid silicone, which has to break to come off, will be wuite tricky

a good guess would be try run a small strong object between the spoiler and the roof to break the bond to make it easier and avoid damaging the paintwork

also when you order spoilers or bodyparts, 90% of the time they come primed and all, this hides any flaws in manafacturing. you will need to flatten this, use 800 wet and dry grit paper, then spray it using really light coats of paint using a fan nozzle, let each dry before starting on a new one, then do the same for laquer, keep in a room of a decent temp around 20 degrees and allow to dry overbnight then power adhesive it back on which has to sit overnight as well, use masking tape or something similar to hold in place and just make sure the surfaces are clean

Re: Rear Spoiler

Just to let you know, for a bit of information, i took the rear spoiler off last weekend and it was one of the most simple things i've done to the car . simply took the boot hatch liners (top and bottom) out, can be pain to get the bottom one back together but , then literally two screws fixing it through the glass itself and it was held to the roof by what i can only describe best to be double sided sticky foam (not sure how structurally efficient this is ). i left the boot in bits atm as waiting til i get new spoiler sprayed at the end of the month rather than putting it all back together just to take it all apart in like two weeks time.

Re: Rear Spoiler

you seem to have went to quite a bit of trouble there, lol. you would be suprised how many body parts are held on with insufficent glue or in your case foam, lol. they were near intended to take any weight, just be able to resist being blown off, from what i remember you shud be able 2 put the schui one on without haveing to take the boot apart as its just a lip that sticks on top with a hole for the washer jet. post a few pics when your done, would like to see what it would of been like

Re: Rear Spoiler

If ordering genuine fiat then the schumi spoiler simply bonds on and overlaps the roof slighty protruding. The abarth spoiler like your has screws and sits flush with the roof. If you have ordered a schumi then you might as well put your boot back together mate. I had a schumi fitted about a month ago.

Mine is still here waiting to be fitted, how much did it cost to be sprayed and fitted?

Cheers

Andy
