Question Amplifier "power off" connection

Hello there.

If there is enought time this weekend, I will start the "wire an amp project" in my Stilo - the good old Phoenix Gold is getting warm again. Problems that I have to overcome are two kids, wife and a couple of strollers. But I have a plan... I managed to do this in an Uno, so why not the Stilo.

But my biggest wonder right now is how to make the amp turn off with the ignition. I've got this "amp power off" connection block on the amp, for a thin wire which tells it to stop working when I pull out the key. I am pretty sure there must be a way of connecting this one from the boot, as it should just receive a signal. The amp will be live fed from the battery though. Or eventually, what cable should I use for this purpose from within the dash?

Help is appreciated on this one.

Morten.

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

When i had mine wired, i had a remote cable connect(thin blue cable) and when i turned cd player off or on the amp did the same, is that what you mean or i am going in the wrong direction ?

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

You are spot on. Remote wire, usually blue, yes. But I plan using the OEM CD player from Fiat, which I haven't removed yet. I don't expect to find a standard ISO block back there, so where do I connect the remote wire?

Thanks for replying by the way.

Regards, Morten.

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

the remote wire for the amp is usally on the back of the head unit saying "remote"
but if you want to wire the amp remote to the standard oem cd player fom fiat you would need to splice the feed to the oem cd player with the remote line for the amp

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

oem units tend to not have remotes tho i think the connect nav has for accesories and the possibility of the stilo sub
but if you cant get a remote feed
simply find a switched ignition 12v feed and send it to the remote port on the amp, the remote feed is just basically a 12v ignitoin feed to tell it to switch on and off so that should do the trick

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

Yeah Amp should just go to remote in headunit. Which will turn it on and off with head unit. But beware.

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

Right im not sure if this will work, but im assuming you have put the Headunit onto the ignition otherwise not even the HU wouldnt turn off, but your HU will still have the Spaces to put one of the Blaupunkt Preout leads into so i will have a look at some point and try to give you a reference point to where the pin is that would have the Remote wire connecting so you can check to see if there is any power being output from it. then it could be a simple task of Solderind a remote wire too it or buying/steeling a block from sumwhere and using the remote the remote wire.
You have such a quality amp i hope you are using a High level to low level converer otherwise all that effort will be wasted.

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

mine takes feeds from the back of the CN+ for ignition, switched, and ground. these go to a kicker pre-amp which also is a low level converter. a remote then comes off this to the amp. the amp switches on and off with the ignition and not the CN+.

i can put up pics if you want.

Since there is a "cigarette lighter" option in the boot, I thought one of these wires could be used as a "remote" signal. This would be the easiest solution. I'd never use it as a live feed for the amp - I guess the Stilo would catch fire.

I was planning to use some Blaupunkt pre-outs if they are present, but I haven't managed to get the bloody HU out yet. Is the car built around it? I have built 3 car stereos, but never had problems getting the HU out.

And yes, it is a great amplifier. Some years, but there is no kidding about the watts. They are real, and watts don't get old. So the signal is to be converted to low level.

Thanks for looking into this for me. The Stilo electrics is still confusing me.

Morten.

Re: Amplifier "power off" connection

Alright. After hours of competition I finally conquered the OEM stereo and got it out. Most likely you need a wife to get it out... sounded pervert. Anyway, since none of my tools or wires would get it out, a pair of knitting pins was my salvation. The narrow ends fit perfect in the trails of the locking mechanism. See picture below.

The back side of the cd-player looks like this, with all plugs out:

On the photo below are the 4 plugs attached to the rear end. The thick black one is the antenna - somewhat hidden and on its way back and up into the bay. The black one is the speakers, and the white is for power etc. The yellow one troubles me though. This one was attached to the leftmost of the 3 possible (well only 2 are the same) on the rear of the HU, and has only one wire connected to it.

I took the HU to the local car audio specialist, who sold me the item below:

This one should make two low level stereo line-outs and also make the amp shut off as a remote power off, which was my initial question. What is strange is that this yellow cable is attached to just the same place in the block as the orange striped cable in the yellow original block (mini ISO or something). So... is there a power remote somewhere else in the car? Where does this original wire go? Maybe to the boot in order to shut off an OEM amp/sub? Does everyone have this one?

Regards, Morten.

i need to use a switched live to this in order to gwet sound outa my aftermarket head unit, without any power going to this a get no sound, and it connects to the sub in the boot so i presume it a switched live for the oem amp/sub
