painting under engine

i have the engine cover on my, well engine.

its the standard black plastic one.

what i want to do, is a really simple job to make it look better.

what i want to know is can i paint just the fiat writing on it using gloss paint which i can get from work.

or will this gloss paint just start to be melted off if it gets hot etc

it will be the colour of the italian flag that i paint it in

Re: painting under engine

it would just maybe be the writing part of it and where it is flat as well

i was thinking the italian glag colours would look good, and it would be something to do for the weekend, so would keep me of the forum for a bit

and it would look quite nice when my bonnet is open as well

(thanks for the pics)

Cool Re: painting under engine

Or you could remove the cover completely and let the under bonnet heat disperse quicker like this ..

Now pnls, idea is brilliant. its surprising how much heat is held in there with that silly cover. Mines off most of the time..

And lets be completely frank here who the hell wants to look at a chavy piece of painted plastic ..when it comes to doing jobs on the engine it will also take less time as well as you dont have to keep bolting it on and off ..

Re: painting under engine

whilst i have this thread going, do you think that this grille will suit my car or should i save the money and put it towards a remap , and cover up the existing fiat badge with a scorpion one

Re: painting under engine

If your on about the plastic engine cover you can use any paint....
I did mine on my M-jet GP Sporting:-

I used a primer, base coat and then a lacquer and used a yellow touch up pen for the 'Multijet' writing. Seems pointless using high temp paint as the plastic doesn't get hot.
