Fit the 3mm drill bit to your drill & drill a pilot hole in each of the marked out areas. Then fit the 4.5mm bit & open each hole out & repeat the process with the 5.5mm bit on both suspension turrets.

Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

I gave the Strut Brace a good testing on the way home. 100% improvement from such a simple and cheap mod. Cornering roll is reduced, no more understeer, more sensitive and precise steering with plenty of feedback. Well recommended, well fitted and well done Ben - thanks mate

Consider myself braced. Great guide. Worked like a charm. Never again will I need a garage to fit a strut brace.. can't believe how easy it was.

Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

All,

Just a quick heads up on the front strut brace.... only relevant if your a selespeed owner!

It would appear the Fiat in their wonderful wisdom have at somepoint changed the selespeed reservoir. When I came to fit the brace on my 54 Stilo, there was no way it was possible with the reservoir. When comparing the pictures, the reservoirs are totally different.

Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

I think JTD's might have a problem with this procedure as; the fuel (or is it the oil) filter is in the way of the strutbrace; I remember there was a post in which someone said that she lowered the filter a bit to allow the strutbrace in the engine compartment...

Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

Hello. This is an excellent guide, which I followed until I reached the last point...

After mounting my OMP brace I found it strange that I should pull the brace ends inwards (shorten it). Stress over years of enthusiastic driving will most likely make the suspension turrets bend inwards, and hence the need to be pushed further away from each other, to it's original state. Result: The car is now even more stable when cornering. But... am I totally wrong here?

Regards, Morten.

Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

Nice tip Morten. I've just adjusted mine as you suggested and got more than a full turn of the adjuster in the opposite direction (lengthening the brace). Now we just need someone with lots of engineering know-how to come on here and tell us it's the worst thing we could have done! But until then, we'll enjoy..!

Cool Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

I believe that the brace should be in a neutral position neither pushing outwards or pulling inwards at the turrets ..I am in the process of building and designing a new turret mount for the stilo and have a working prototype the new brace will have adjustments at both mounts and on the bar

Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

Fitted mine today on a 1.4 16v, no major problems, just that you have to move the stuff from the left turret(looking from outside), and when installed the brace vibrates against the thing in the image, on the upside the vibrations do make the car sound kinda beefy under acceleration but i would suggest mounting a bit further towards the back. i used 4.5mm self tapping bolts (10mm head) a 3mm bit to start the holes off but then that snapped so i just used the 4.5mm which took much longer be careful when your near to going thru the turret that's when the bit snags and snaps. thamks for the thread ben. now its time to go test it out properly!

Re: How to fit a front upper strut brace!

that good vibration has turned into problem vibration, the clip that holds the plug into the ecu has snapped, and now the plug comes out and the car cuts out! on an island! anyone know what to do?
