Amp wire - How I Did It
As done on a Stilo 1.6

Amp wire - 1.6 - How I Did It

First - Find the gromet - Its located on the passager side just under the windscreen, about 3 inches from the edge of the inner wing - In the pic below you can not see the gromet but you can see the black silicon used to cover the hole the cable went through - I could only poke the gromet out so I made sure no water could get in to the car by filling with black silicon, its in a very dry place but its good not to take chances.

Re: Amp wire - 1.6 - How I Did It

IF ONLY YOU POSTED THIS, THIS MORNING!

I just spent all day fitting all my wires and just as it was getting dark I give up with the power cable and decided on using the boot power.

I had my dashboard in so many bits tryin to find an F'in hole! Will have to try this tomorrow.

Am I right in saying that you can disconnect the airbag switch? As I was to scared to pull it out incase it caused problems or blew up in my face!

If this works I owe you a big thanks

Yeah - No probs with the switch - Just pop it out - Then disconect the plug (yellow wires) and remove the screw behind - then the two that hold the panel in on the glove box

Re: Amp wire - 1.6 - How I Did It

So the power cable goes from the battery through the first gromit hole right next to the ABS sensor thing behind the suspension block then round past the bonnet hinge through another grommit hole?

Is that correct?

I just bolted it onto a spare Bolt on the battery - then ran the cable (fused about 3" from the battery) Out of the battery box under the rubber bonnet strip (just pull it up) and into the gromet (Which I poked out with a screw driver) ... There is only one gromet ... I should have taken a pic with the Bonnet rubber up ... theres a gap for cables there.

PS sorry about the messy thread Stu

Re: Amp wire - 1.6 - How I Did It

You have found the gromet I'm on about ?

I just pushed the gromet with a screw driver (I was trying to make a hole in it) and it poped out, thats why I put some silicon in its place.

Just wire the Ignition and the permanant together to the main live on the loom ... ok the headunit wont switch off with the key but it will save some time ... and remind you to remove the face.

You could just run it from the fag lighter ... that works from the ignition.

Re: Amp wire - 1.6 - How I Did It

Its really hard to get to it with a screw driver, and to dark. I think im gunna have to take off the black plastic strip along with the wipers off to get to it.

Anyone pulled apart the trim to get to the fag lighter yet? Is it easy?

That's the one. Long thin screwdriver with power cable attached to the end and push like a bas**** through to the other side. More likely the gromit will go through with it into the bulkhead.
