Cleaning skyroof runners

As most owners of Stilos with a Skroof will know there is very little information available from Fiat or Webasto on servicing the Skyroof With that in mind I had a look at mine when I first got the car and came up with a simple service that I undertake every 3 months or so.

To do the job 'my way' what you need are a couple of good clothes (I use a yellow polishing cloth and a microfibre cloth) a small brush (soft toothbrush is ideal) and a jar of vaseline.

First thing to do is to open the roof up fully:

Once the roof is fully open get into the channels the roof opens and closes on with a cloth. First time you do this a spray is handy - WD40 does the job - what you're looking to do is to clean as much of the rubbish, dirt and old grease out of there as you can.

Once you've cleaned that off as much as you can get into the channel the runners go up and down in with the toothbrush coated in vaseline. Go over it all as many times as you feel is necessary.

With that done look at the runners each glass panel is attached to:

Clean them as best you can then daub on the vaseline with your fingers making sure that you go over as much of the physical mechanism as you can.

Don't forget the front either!

Once you've done all that open and close the roof a couple of times. Don't worry about nay excess vaseline, it'll come off with a microfibre cloth or similar.

You could clean the glass inside and out at the same time. I didn't this time, but I use an Autoglym product. I'm sure any good automotive glass polish would do the same job

That's it. Simple, but it's amazing how much quieter and smoother the roof is with these simple measures done. Be sure to keep a programme of maintenance going though, as the roof gets mucky quickly.

Re: Cleaning skyroof runners

I put so much grease like on this picture, and now I have problem with leaking!
Grease plugged watter outtake pipes, and I can't unplug it. Be careful, don't put so much grease, maybe spray is better.

Any idea how to unplug this pipes?
