Ok You know the one! That horrid creaking from the centre vents, more so if you have air con as it’s temperature and dry plastic related. Now you’re going to get rid of it for good and get some peace.

You’ll need to remove the centre radio (radio/ cassette player in this one) radio rods 1.JPG
You’ll need 4 pieces of rod of 2mm diameter to remove this hi tech radio/ cassette player. :)
They don’t need to be very long 3” or 75mm is ample

OK disconnect the battery

Insert the rods as far as they go and then lever out the radio unit. The trim on either side is tough padding so you should be ok to lever with a largish flat blade screwdriver without making horrible marks but protect it if you’re nervous. Shouldn't take too much force, make sure the rods are fully engaging the release pins if it's reluctant to move. Ok the radio's out so place the unit to one side.

Now you have some space

Now remove the two torx screws at the base of the centre vents and then you’ll find it much easier to remove the hazard switch completely
haz switch 1.JPG
so you can pull directly and centrally from its vacated slot. Just push the hazard switch out and remove the connector by depressing the catch on the side.

Now you can get a firm grip and pull out the centre vents.

You’ll probably have quite a bit if dust that has collected between the vents and the dashboard so clean this out as that won’t help the squeaks either.

centre vents 2.JPG
Use some WD40 lubricate spray and just lightly spray the inner vents connector seals which are bone dry.

If you look at the centre vents now they’re out then there’s some very rough edges where the mouldings have been hot welded.

centre vents refit 2.JPG
Place some sticky pads on the top of the vents here over that rough plastic welding

centre vents refit 1.JPG
and also stick some sticky pads here on the dashboard so the vents will be nice and snug when you refit.

Then spray a little WD40 in the dash recess just to stop the last of the dry plastic contact squeaks and you’re done.

Refitting is easy but make sure the hi tech radio/ cassette player is pushed firmly in and secure once you have removed the rods.

Reconnect the battery. Make sure the hazard switch works and you’ll need to reset the day and time and any other personal settings again from the side panel

No more squeaks:)
