I am a new owner of a 1979 Spider 2000:slayer:, but I have a problem:bang:. I have owned this beautiful car two weeks and after 5 days of driving it, and I did love driving it, she just won't start. I have done everything I can think of and am stumped:confused:. She is an automatic, I know not this best thing in any car, but that is the way she came to me. I just got a repair manual for it and one suggestion is to check the Neutral Position Switch and It does not share with me where that is, anyone have an answer for me. So far I have traced all the wiring. Tested the Voltage through the wiring. It might be the ignition switch, but it seems to test well with a multimeter:mad:. I am at a loss, please help.

The switch ... not sure were it would be on one of those!
try running a jumper wire and tapping the starter motor?? see if its the starter motor

When you say it won't start, do you mean that it cranks but won't start or that it won't even crank? The tranny is a GM unit if memory serves me right.

Well yesterday evening I jumped the starter motor and what a noise she made, but her starter was turning. I seem to have no voltage to the starter switch on the starter, but what now?

Won't even crank, but as suggested above I applied juice straight to the start switch on the starter and she sort of cranked, sounded almost like a grind.

There will be an inhibitor switch on the selector mechanism to stop the car starting in gear.

That may be a problem

or

the starter motor could be goosed.

or

a combination of both.

Pop the motor out for a bench test.

Cheers

I got it started, it was the starter relay, never thought of that. Any ways I am now a happy Spider owner:slayer:. Love this car.
