Hello all, I’m new to the forum. My father has a 1977 124 Spider, and I’m trying to gather information to aid me in purchasing wheels. I don’t have access to the car, and I’d like to surprise him with the wheels. I’m think of stepping up to a 15” after market aluminum wheel. Any thoughts or recommendations?

1st Q: The car currently has plain steel Fiat wheels, Fiat hubcaps, and P165/80R13 tires. Is this the stock tire size? If not, what is?

2nd Q: What are the critical dimensions of the stock wheels, i.e. width, offset/backspacing, bolt circle…?

The bolt pattern is 4x98 mm, and I am unsure of the recommended offset myself, I've been wondering as well, because I want to upgrade my wheels on my 80 Spider.. any recommendations on total diameter, max recommended width, acceptable offsets and a possiblilty of upgrading to 5 stud hubs? would be much appreciated.

As already mentioned the studs are 4x98, I ASSUME that the offset is the same as newer models which I believe is ET35..

As for the tyre size for a 15 assuming the 165/80/13 is the stock size, I'd go for 205/40/R15 which is +0.5MM off the total original wheel diameter. However if that is too wide you can go for a 165/50/R15(+1mm) or 175/45/R15 (-2.75mm) so as you can see the gearing shouldn't be affected too much with those tyre sizes.

Just realised that this post is 8 months old. I think by now the guy should have some new wheels.
