1982 Spider 2000 technical problem!!

He has a 1982 spider. Its stock.
He is running very rich at idle which seems to even out when he takes his intake off the throttle body.

He has gone so far as to change out the ECU, the fuel regulator, the butterfly in the intake piping, his O2 sensor.

Any ideas what may cause this in this car or point me to someone who can help?

thanks!!

Surely not a choked air filter, or blocked inlet piping.. after replacing all that [:0]

Could be sucking false air between engine and O2 sensor so the ECU is made to believe that the engine is running to poor.

i think his air filter is new. we'll have to check the manifold and exhaust for leaks i guess but that shouldn't let air in but let exhaust out so the o2 sensor should not change too much.

someone suggested leaky injectors so we'll be looking at that next.

thanks. keep suggestions coming if anyone has ever had this happen.

The dark reply.......
so much 'blow by' from a worn engine that the crankcase breather system is pumping so much oil mist and exhaust gas into the inlet that the ecu can't cope - would explain why it runs fine with the air box off. ;)

sincerely hope not though.

Pete.
