vehicle ID

Hi I am just about to buy my second spider, I sold the last one in 2007 after two years and have missed it ever since. I have been offerd a Spider supposedly 1981 but not sure I have the chassis number and I was wondering if someone had an idea of the model and year. 124CS000164519
Cheers

Re: vehicle ID

look on the tag inside the driver door for the build date.

1079 = october of 1979, or a 1980 model year (my car)

Re: vehicle ID

thanks for the replys, I am off to wales next week to look at the beast. I bid on ebay and bought it for 900 quid and thought it would be worth a risk at that price.

Re: vehicle ID

Thanks for the replys, I have had an email back from Spiderpoint in Germany that confirms that the car is an 1980/81 model with a 2000cc fuel injection motor. My previous spider was a carb version, does anyone have any comments regarding the injection version postive or negative.
cheers Keith

Re: vehicle ID

dunno how it is "over there" but "over here" there is no standard answer, other than with a question or two:
1. what is your preference
2. who is gonna do the work

I prefer carbs, since I hate computers....if that makes sense.

most mechanics here are too young to know how to work on carburetors.

a stock FI system tuned to proper factory specs should outperform a stock carb setup tuned to factory specs.

there are more performance mods (IMO) and more variables available for carb'd setup than for FI setups.

no spider came from the factory post mid-year 1980 with a carburetor.
