Good buy?

I am kind of interested in this car, is it worth what they are asking?

Re: Good buy?

Depends. It looks like there is a lot of rust on it (hood, fender arch, rocker panel) and it could get expensive to repare. You need to check the shock tower for rust also. Figure body repair and painting to cost anywhere form $2500 to $5000 and you will have $5000 - $7500 in a car worth $4000 -$6000 assuming that nothing else is needed (highly unlikely). Because of the rust, offer him $1500 if everything else checks out.

Re: Good buy?

Thanks. If it's going to cost that much, I think I'm gonna wait until I've got enough money to get another car. I really want a Spider, but my mustang is expensive enough for me right now, without me getting another car that I need to dump money into. Maybe in a few months I'll either have the money to fix one or to buy a good one.

Re: Good buy?

the interior alone will cost you +$900 for the seats, +$600 for the door panels. that is if you don't need foam padding

$+400 for carpeting. i promise that the dashboard vinyl is cracked, and the center console will require some rework or replacement.

all that plus installation if you don't know how.

$1500 should be your offer to the seller. he'll play heck getting more than that. Even if it were worth what he was asking, a $2500 car is STILL a project car; which means you are expected to put more money into it.
