members clean up

had this on a site a few weeks back.
if you look though the members list its very hard to find who you are looking for coz of all the registerd users who have never really posted,

also all thier bithdays come up and imo it makes the site look very untidy,

what happens is every1 who has 10 or less post and who hasnt posted in 6 months account gets deleted, there is a period of 1 month were they can request thier account stays open. if thier account is closed they have the right to later re-open it.

it certainly worked on other forums, makes it a more closer community

just a thought

Re: members clean up

Could always send out a mass email to ones who havent used it for a while saying if they dont log in by such and such your account will be removed.

I joined up here posted twice then didnt come back for over 2 years and my account was still here...

Re: members clean up

It would be useful, also in terms of freeing up usernames. Maybe those with zero posts who haven't been on in 12 months, preceded by a mass email just in case. I've had emails from various sites I've posted on once or twice who are doing clean-ups. Click the link and it reactivates your account - so if you wanted to stay then you could

Re: members clean up

zero posts good, if they have posts dont deleting them leave gaps in threads and people who aint been on since the change over should go

Problem with that is when you get people like me. I come on this site almost every night but as you can see, I hardly post. This is mainly due to thatI would only post if I need help and can't find information on here via the search facilities on the site. This is the same with other forums I go on too. Only post if I need something.

Wouldn't a better idea be to remover users who have not been active for a certain time period. This means that people who come on here but don't need to post can do so with out the agro of having to refreshing the account.

Just a thought

Then when you do a member search, and you get loads of hits, just sort by post count/last visit - easier to find the member you are after then

Re: members clean up

I registered in 2003 did a few posts and have not been back until now, it's nice to know you can come back whenever, but I can see where this could be leading... maybe you should have to re-activate your account after a certain period of inactivity...just a thought, then again it might just be pain in the arse for the people that run the place.
