Forum display in Opera

Does anyone else here use the Opera browser? I have major problems getting the site to load sometimes: a big black stip appears across the page just above the table, then the page part loads, the black strip gets wider, swallows up part of the page that has loaded, then this goes on for a few attempts before the black strip eats everything up and nothing is left but the banners at the top! Then the big black blob disappears too.

What funny bit is in your code that makes it do this?

Yeah i use both Opera and IE, i find that a lot of badly designed sites are just for IE, microsoft trying to rule the world. but remember mac users don't tend to use ie. But i always use ie for forums as it works find with that, so can't really complain.

Its all the code which does it, not there fault really.

Tried firefox and it seemed to work ok, but it's incremental load algorithn drove me mad as everytime I started to read a post it would scroll off the page when another bit of the thread loaded. ie might be slow but at least you get a page at a time.

Thanks guys for your trouble but I've found the problem. I was still using the Beta version and had forgotten to upgrade when the final one was released. D'oh! Anyway, I've done it now, no more black blobs and no more crashes.

I know it wasn't your fault ben but the fault of the main coding for the forums. Just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problem but they wouldn't be unless they're as duh-brained as moi.

ETA: What do you think of Firefox Polecat? I have the first release of Mozilla, which I found to be too closely related to Netscape to make it worth using, so is Firefox radically different?

Eek, scary. I read this trhread whilst using Firefox.

I quite like it... tabbed pages rather than a taskbar full of sh*te, printing options that are the dogs. Quite like Opera too, but it completely took over last time I installed it so it had to go.

We use IE cos it's always there. It's like always buying a Ford without ever trying a Fiat (Stilo in my case - nice!) [8D]

Stilo 1.6 Dynamic in that nice pale metallic green & Volvo 850 T-5 Battle Cruiser

Like everything else to do with it, Opera only takes over if you tell it to do so - tell it not to and it keeps its nose out. Utterly useless unless you actually want to take the time and energy to optimise the experience. I think a lot of people like IE because they don't have to bother, but then on the other hand you can never actually have it working the way you want it to, whereas with Opera you can.

They are both Internet browsers - IE being Internet Explorer supplied by Microsoft, Opera being an alternate internet browser.

Does that help???
