Don't know if anyone would agree as there is a wealth of inforation on here for all FIAT owners but with the knowledge that Police and other organisations are intruding on the general discussions forums and causing distress to its nice, contributing, helpful members, it might be an idea to make certain portions or all sections of this website for members only.

This way you could not view a post without being a member, and new users who sign up who do not post within 3 days could have their account expire automatically.

Then we can monitor IP addresses of people who sign up, browse and leave and monitor what sections of the board they are viewing.

I only say this as certain useful members may feel that they do not want to post on the boards anymore and this active monitoring may drive away site traffic.

Just a thought.

I know we have police Members but I would expect them to be Fairly reasonable in what they deem to be "naughty" and Loyal to the rest of the users here.

But if Police who are non members are going as far as to get people prosecuted for things whats to stop them taking prosecutiong for tips on More performance on your vehicles where as the performance mods "might" be illegal or people who have say recently added a mod to their motor and not got round to telling their insurance company about it (maybe they are testing to see if they still want it and I'm sure Ive read users on here saying they are testing a part to see if they are going to keep it over another similar part of a different brand)

Whether I'm behaving or not I don't like strangers watching me over my shoulder as it make me uncomfortable. I'm sure there are some who feel the same.

I can understand where you're coming from mate! unfortunately that's part of a public forum it's PUBLIC so there isn't much you can do. I also think that if members grass on other members they should automatically be banned! :D

I think the some sections would benefit from 'members only' such as members motors and the photogallery. At the end of the day, it only takes 5 minutes to sign up, maybe less. If anyone was going to monitor the forum, then you can be certain that they will go through the quick registration to join.

I think the car sections should be open to guests because it gives them an idea of what this forum is about.

I don't see why police monitoring forums is soo bad. Just don't do anything bad on the roads, and if you do, don't boast about it here..

when did this happen?!

OK, on top of that, watch this:

"I did 150mph on a motorway yesterday" - nothing can come of saying that on here. If there's anything that's ever going to get you into hot water, don't post it.

Agree with steve and dave... Simply, don't give your personal details out on the forum, and don't be stupid and brag about doing silly things.

Also, if you're posting photos of other peoples cars or your, please remove the registration mark, if you don't want anybody to know it.

And another thing... if you have a members only forum... anybody can still see it by registering.

usually when someone posts something silly they get jumped on by everyone else anyway ;) I don't think there's any need - the only thing I can see any use for would be that you get extra benefits if you donate for example ie. make a section private for a positive reason not a negative one but personally I think the forum should be open to all as it gives folks an idea of what we're about and carries out the original intention of sharing advice :)

the only reason i would want a members only forum is if there pics of naked women :D

or stu in his wig  (i can say that cause he not here :p)

who are the other organisations  we being watched by MI5 or FBI...

easiest way of staying safe is like what most are saying, keep any sensitive info to yourselves , us pm, e-mail, msn for transimission of that data

arent IP addresses dynamic and change each time you dial up onto net

i dont understand why members wouldnt want to post on the boards, if you dont post up anything illegal and post enough information for the authorities to find you, then what's the problem

at the end of the day you post what you want people to know, live with the consequences if its illegal, would you brag in the street about illegal activites..... why do it on a PUBLIC forum

I have to totally agree with this.
I would even be tempted to post pictures of myself if only members were gonna look at it.
It just don't feel right posting pictures like that for the whole world to see.

Yes and No, but either way the IP will always give you the ISP, who can then find out which user logged in using that IP.

Dial up? I think I remember that... :D
You can have a static IP address on dialup, you usually do on broadband, plus some people might be viewing from work for example, with a leased line.
