Surly this system would be so you could enter a plate and it would say

F345 FTH is Mikeee


Not F345 FTH is Mikeee's Fiat Punto. You'd already know what car they've got anyway if you've spotted it and wanted to see who is was, so security wouldn't be an issue. The issue would be if it were open eg had all members and their plates listed. It should just be done so it's a search and answer

It could quite easily be an 'opt-in', like Location. If it brings up a result great, if not it doesn't mean it isn't someone on FF, just someone more cautious about sharing their reg number with the rest of the community. Could also have it (similar to posting links) as something that only members with say 25+ posts could use
