So what FIATS can run on pure, diluted or not run at all on Biofuels? I have found the other dedicated sites you refer to never mention FIAT...

Thats my point, it would be something for US FIAT owners and FIAT Forum Members.

Definitely! As we head towards a grim costly future in general terms of driving and fuel costs, it would be really helpful if the Forum helped FIAT owners understand all the pro's and con's of considering this and how to go about it without causing their cars to suffer.

Not much is then by that reckoning.

I'm more than up for it. Would be a chance to exchange views, experiences, details on what engines can use it and what can't at what concentrations.

Ah, you're back then. You stick your nose in and start all this debate and then just disappear without a bye your leave. Your never phone, you never write. Your poor Mother's been frantic. Er, where was I? Oh yes, it's possible that bio-fuels will provide the most divisive topic in poitics and business for years, and I don't just mean on the Forum. It's going to affect all of us in one way or another in the not too distant future, so I agree the subject needs to be somewhere where comments can be posted in one place and not scattered
all over shop. Whether it does merit its own section I'm not sure but I don't know enough about these matters to make a suggestion in that regard but I think it's too important a subject to leave it spread across all the different sections. Hello? Where's everybody gone?

Sounds good. If it does pick up speed and become popular, then move it to it's own section?

If biofuels can’t be produced in virgin habitats, they must be confined to existing agricultural land, which means that every time we fill up the car we snatch food from people’s mouths. This, in turn, raises the price of food, which encourages farmers to destroy pristine habitats - primary forests, ancient grasslands, wetlands and the rest - in order to grow it. We can congratulate ourselves on remaining morally pure, but the impacts are the same. There is no way out of this: on a finite planet with tight food supplies you either compete with the hungry or clear new land.

The third problem is that the Commission’s methodology has just been blown apart by two new papers. Published in Science magazine, they calculate the total carbon costs of biofuel production(8,9). When land clearance (caused either directly or by the displacement of food crops) is taken into account, all the major biofuels cause a massive increase in emissions"

That is the big debate in biofuels. The fuel itself is green but it still causes harm to the environment. The ultimate aim for someone like me would be to produce fuel from waste, i.e. chip shop oil, prolonging the life of such a product. There is no deforesation or snatching of food in the specific production chain for that kind of use.
