just wondering if anyone has done a timing belt change on a diesel sedici,my main concern is how to tension the belt correctly,if any one can point me in the right direction that would be great,i have read the workshop manual from this forum but if anyone has done one that advice would be much appreciated,i intend using the gates belt kit with pump tensioner and idler pulleys included

what engine..petrol / JTD..??

The Timing belt was changed by the Garage ( Arnold Clark Fiat, Kirkcaldy, Scotland) just before I bought my car, presumably as part of a routine pre sale service.
2 years and 7200 miles later I took the car to Arnold Clark Fiat, Stourbridge for a service and MOT this summer and they had to change the Water pump and timing belt again as I had a deep rumbling noise coming from the engine , they said it was the water pump, but changes the belt again. luckily all under warranty.

The rule of thumb is that you should be able to twist the belt thru 90 deg in the middle of it's longest span with moderate finger and thumb pressure. If you don't trust your finger and thumb to check the tension, then you can buy Timing Belt Tension test tools from e-bay etc for <£20.
