Hi fellow Sedici owners. I have a 1.9 multijet and the clutch seems to bite around an inch from the top of the peddle. I have no slipping and no problem with the gears. But what I would like to know is as the clutch plate wears will the biting point get higher or lower? Being as the slave cylinder is in the bell housing and works strait on the pressure plate I think it will get lower. Your thought please. Kind regards Stephen.

T'other way round methinks. As clutch wears, the bite point is later - which means higher up the pedal - until the clutch slips even with the pedal fully released.
Hate cars with the slave cylinder inside the bell housing. Everything was much simpler years ago.
Had a Scenic with this layout, and the slave cylinder started leaking. Would have been a half hour job if the slave cylinder had been external to the gearbox. Turned into a major dismantle!

Thanks for your reply Baz but I cant seem to get my head round this. Surely as a clutch plate wears out (thinner) then the slave cylinder will have to travel more to disengage. So pedal would be further down being as the slave cylinder is in the bell housing? Regards Stephen.

It's confused me for a while until I sat quiet and drew it out.

The pressure plate is actually a fulcrum - when you push the clutch pedal, you push the centre of the pressure plate which releases the pressure at its outer edges, thus releasing the clutch driven plate. The more the clutch wears, the less travel your pedal needs to release the pressure - hence it bites higher up on the pedal - eventually slipping even without the pedal even being depressed.

There's a good video that shows the action on Youtube, but as I'm a newbie I can't post it till I've got five strikes! Worth checking out though. (try 6BaECAbapRg once you're in Youtube).

Hope that helps.
