Hi all,

Took the plunge a couple of days ago and bought a petrol Sedici - things are all good so far (well apart from a slight noise from a front corner - perhaps a worn bush or a drop link but I'll get an inspection at a Suzuki dealer whilst still under the dealer's warranty).

Can anyone recommend a place to buy good quality mats - none in the car on sale, so I need to get a set, and the OE ones are £60 or so, I note

I wondered also if anyone has any experience of remapping the engine to the later 120bhp spec - not thinking about the extra power per se, rather looking at better economy.

Thanks in advance (y)

Try Halfords for mats, and remember any engine re-mapping will be frowned upon by your insurance company.

I can't see anything tailored for the Sedici in Halfords - from browsing the driver's side seems quite an unusual shape so I don't particularly want to fit a generic one.

Why will the insurance company frown, do you think?

There is a set of tailored mats on ebay today @ £25.08 from "uk_micks_garage"
I don't know much about remapping but when I had my 1.9 serviced and MOT'd at my local " Ford specialist" service station I gained nearly 5mpg up to 53mpg on long runs, I presumed it had been tuned to the spec of the new 2.0 Mk2.
P.S just found some more mats @ £17.99 further down the page

Thanks for that - I've just had a best offer accepted on a set of Fiat OE mats I found, so all's good there.

Re remapping, it's more a case of putting out feelers to see - I've been driving a Prius for the last 3 years or so, and latterly a Plug In version, so am used to getting slightly better mpg than I anticipate from this one!

I haven't done much mileage yet so it will be interesting to see what I do get from it.

Will a Suzuki dealer touch the Sedici? Despite it being the same car as an SX4? Or did you buy it from there......... Anyway whats the mileage? My moneys on the knock will be the front wishbone - common issue on higher mile cars.....

My advice would also be - get a 'proper' service done.
Change the pollen filter.
And trawl THIS forum for past posts and great advice.

Thanks for the replies guys.

In no particular order, yes a petrol engine can be remapped in just the same way as a diesel, it's just less common because there is less potential benefit from a remap on a NA engine than there is from a turbo. Petrol turbos also take remaps very well, for the same reason as diesel turbos.

The Sedici's engine is identical to the Suzuki - it's their M16A unit, which produces 107bhp in this iteration, but AFAIK using identical ancillaries, produces 120 in later versions, hence the query. What is quite difficult, it seems, is to overcome the ECU security that has been built in. I don't pretend to understand that aspect, TBH.

The Suzuki dealer will be seeing it later this afternoon, and is very happy to do so - to all intents and purposes the Sedici is identical to the SX4 4Grip, except for some trim and badging - they're made by Suzuki on the same line at their factory in Hungary, after all.

Interesting re the wishbone, thanks - we'll see what the diagnosis is this afternoon and I'll report back (72K miles, BTW).

I'm pretty familiar with the forum - I've read it pretty much front-to-back in the lead up to purchase, but couldn't see anything on remapping a petrol, hence the query. There's very little on UK Suzuki Forums, either, but some good info. on an American site, where they do report good things after having remaps completed, but obviously there's no reference to a UK supplier of that service.

I have since found someone who says he is able to do this in the UK, but I don't particularly want to be a test-bed!

Will report back anon (y)

Update post inspection.

Yes they can hear the knock, too, but no, can't identify precisely where it's coming from. There's no play anywhere that can be found, and the bushes are sound, too.

Their best guess is that the lower arm that was fitted pre sale by the supplying dealer is faulty, especially as the noise only began 50 miles or so into the journey from the dealer.

Annoying, but otherwise a clean bill of health :)

Update to the update...

The knocking turned out to be a failing front strut, so a replacement will be supplied under warranty.

Credit to the dealership (Car warehouse, actually), despite their not being able to replicate the specific conditions that had been producing the knock they basically disassembled the front rh corner on my say-so and discovered the failing strut.

Not everyone's out to fleece the customer, it seems :)

2 new Sachs Super Touring Front Struts later and all's well - quiet, steers nicely, with slightly more weight, and is notably more supple. Good news. :)

Now the quietness shows up the fact that the driver's seat springs squeak. I don't suppose anyone else has had this problem have they

To answer my own question, apparently so, so much so in fact that there appears to be a rectification kit.

With MY squeaky seat, I sprayed lots of WD40 underneath.
That cured it.
Piers.
