I've just had a bit of maintenance done on my Sedici. The off-side front suspension spring and the timing belt needed doing.

The spring had failed and about 270 degrees of metal was missing. The car wasn't handling badly or sitting at an odd angle, but it was definitely missing a lot of spring!

So the spring came in at £71 ex VAT and needed 1.5 hours fitting.

The timing belt kit was £85 ex VAT and needed 2 hours fitting.

Car has just hit 90,000 miles and (apart from the EGR nightmare) is all going well.

Brake booster is still hissing slightly but isn't getting worse. Will get it sorted soon.

Spring failures are increasing, although I've nver had one in 48 years of motoring; thought to be a combination of speed humps and more likely poor quality manufacture; the tails of the springs are no longer flattened and annealed leading to cracking.
Were the water pump & tensioners replaced with the timing belt (see recent post re this)? Also see my post on the brake servo....

It was an odd one, I can't remember any particular event where I would have damaged it but definitely knew something was up when I found a piece of it on my driveway!

Did the tensioners with the kit but not the waterpump. I did read the timing belt post. Haven't had any of the symptoms but to be honest it slipped my mind when I put it in for the work.

Feeling a lot better now the works done. And it's looking awesome cleaned and waxed in the sun! Italians know how to do paintwork!

just had to replace my offside front spring after 62,000 miles, was £62 inc vat, man at garage said it was down to the state of the roads and road humps, as you say, ive had cars that have been 10 years old plus in the past, and never had a broken spring, in fact i didn't think you could break them!......and i dont think an italian did your paint work, unless of course he'd moved to bulgaria! lol

Yep.... Guess what Guys????

2006 Diesel Sedici with broken front coil spring and hissing brake booster @ 66000.

Springs are on back order.

Anyone know how much to fix the vacuum leak?:(

Me too! Front offside coil spring broke a couple of weeks ago - 2008 diesel Sedici @ 52000 miles.

A lot more weight on the front of the diesel than the 16v, but presumably the spring is uprated to compensate. Mine had a spring replaced last year at around the same mileage, I notice.

Still got my front RHS rattle which will need fixing under warranty - trouble is the (non-franchised) dealer's 100+ miles away so I'll need to make very sure they've got all the parts it could possibly need on site so I don't have to to and fro :(

Ours was offside front as well!!!!

Luckily found the broken piece on the driveway same as cmm.sedici otherwise wouldn't have known.

Gonna replace both sides. Wondering who made these springs? Suzuki,Fiat, vauxhall, G.M.?

Hi Bonefish Blues,

We once took our warranty booklet to another garage to carry out work and were told it is fine to do this.... (Will always recommend Darren at Alfatech, ledbury after he saved our engine):)

Thanks or the thought, but it's underwritten by the dealership itself, rather than a 3rd Party product, so car has to go back there for resolution.

RE the brake booster. I still haven't done anything with it as it's not causing me any trouble, and it's not noisy enough for me to notice day-to-day.

I did some research on it and it looks like a fairly hefty job as it's right behind the pedals on the inside and behind a load of cables on the engine side.

I'll let you know if I get a quote, but it won't be for a while.

Cheers guys,

Just finished changing the springs.

Not too bad a d.i.y. job with the right tools and know how... But.. had to take one of the removed shocks to a local garage to undo the top nut after rounding off the torq head.

Took him less than a second with his impact wrench!!!:worship:

The springs were as 'tinytim' said.. "Not flattened and annealed at the ends" and the shocks were stamped "Suzuki".

Had a nervous time when compressing.

Definitely a weak spot to look out for by the sounds of things.

Will try to post details of vacuum leak later when checked.:)
