HAPPY NEW YEAR TO SEDICI OWNERS (& OTHERS)

when checking tyre prices on mytyres I was given 2 engine power ratings to choose from 79kw & 88kw bothe same cc.

Can anyone suggest an explanation?
 
Tim - KW is just another measurement of power output - KW is the EEC directive measurement currently in-vogue of output compared to traditional BHP........

1.6 Petrol I4 1586 cc 107 PS (79 kW; 106 hp) @5600 rpm 145 N·m (107 lb·ft) @4000 rpm 4WD:170 km/h (110 mph)

1.6 Petrol I4 1586 cc 120 PS (88 kW; 120 hp) @6000 rpm 156 N·m (115 lb·ft) @4400 rpm FWD:185 km/h (115 mph)
4WD:175 km/h (109 mph)

88kw is the output for the upgraded 1.6 Petrol engine put into the S2 Sedici....(i.e. the current facelifted S2 Sedici has a slightly more powerful 1.6 engine - +14BHP (y) )

Yours will be the 79kw option.

This was from the press release for the S2 Sedici:

The 1.6 16v petrol engine develops 120 HP at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 156 Nm (15.9 kgm) at 4,400 rpm. Ideal for city driving and winding roads, the new engine has been developed with a particular emphasis on performance and fuel consumption. This is due to a variable timing system which contributes to ensuring optimum torque and power at any speed. The New Sedici equipped in this way has a top speed of 185 km/h and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds combined with fuel consumption of 5.2 l/100 km in the extra-urban cycle, 6.2 l/100 km in the mixed cycle and 7.9 l/100 km in the urban cycle (the figures for the 4x4 version are 175 km/h, 11.5 seconds, 5.9 l/100 km, 6.5 l/100 km and 9.2 l/100 km). Thus, a brilliant engine and economical at the same time.

Euro 5 compliant, the two engines can boast a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions compared with engines in the previous range. In fact, in comparison with the 107 HP 1.6, the new 120 HP engine (in addition to an extra 13 HP) shows a reduction of roughly 10%, in both the 4x2 and 4x4 versions.


Seems a new variable timing system in the new engine gives the extra oomph and better emissions....

if this is variable ignition timing then an ECU upgrade may be worthwhile (although I think all ignition timing is varaible)
if variable valve timing then upgrade not likely to be economic; never quite understood how variable valve timing works....
