I have an 08 sedici 1.6 petrol and the front brakes scream and screach under gentle braking and if I add more pressure to thebrake pedal you can here a growl like the pads are shot !The cars only done 8k from new .The car was bought in march 2010 from the car people with test drive mileage on it (3 miles)story is it was one of 500 units bought in and registered in 2008 by fiat but left in an old RAF hanger for storage ;BASICALLY PAID HALF PRICE FOR IT.
Been under the car before I bought it to make sure it hadnt spent 2 year up to its sills in water befor being sold on. All is clean with no rust issues and all rubber gators and bushes look like new.
Could the the front pads have absorbed moistor and started to brake bown after being stood for so long . By the way the starter motor shot its load at only 100 miles and was replaced by fiat wakefield with a recon one !
Is the mpg correct as I get about 360 miles before the the fuel light comes one.(7.5ltrs per 100km)
I have used 99 octane and had it down to 6.5ltrs but dont know if the extra cost per litre is worth it though till I crunch the figures.
any Advice would be great .

Try aftermarket brake pads, they're working very well and they dont sound like a helicopter,i've just chance them.

had a look at the pads more closely today and found the cause of the problem.
were the brake pads seat there are locating arm shims to hold the pad in place in the brake housing.these were forward of the housing so when you brake they hit the disk the same time as the pad .so I just pushed them back 5mm and wala job done no more ear destroying scream.:slayer:(y)
by the way the original pads are GALFER UNITS and aint cheap to buy quoted £90.These are made for fast road and race bikes and are known if your a biker.Makes you wonder if suzuki bike techs have had some input into the brake system.

Couple of things to log for future referrence with regard to pads.

I currently run EBC pads on our 1.9 Multijet and they are absolutely fine and don't cost much...

However...

Although the Galfer parts from Fiat are more expensive (though I have got them at just over £60) the Fiat pads also come with new retaining clips and caliper bolts included.

After 20k + the original caliper bolts deteriorate and get pretty ropey and I wouldn't necessarilly want to re-use them. So it may be worth paying a little extra.

re mpg; I get 41mpg +/- 0.5 out of my petrol 1.6 bought from FiAt Direct so probably one of the 500 you refer to; no problems thus far
ps you can reset the display to read mpg

thanks for that; note to self about the bolts and any idea on the price of the bolts could they just be bought from an engineering iron monger or are they product specific with sum funky extra fine metric pitched thread like my mates ducati bike !:bang:
