Hey Guys,

Having just had my punto broken into for the second time in as many months, i'm looking at beefing up the security of the car, but have a few questions...

I'v fitted a Microscan alarm with voltage-drop and ultrasonic sensors which will hopefully help, however i'm also looking at doing the following...

De-locking it - my 55s mk1 doesnt have any central locking, so i'll need a complete remote central locking kit fitted, whats a sensible price for one? i'v looked around and a complete kit seems to be around the £120 range from some places, would this be about right? also my main concern is what happens if the battery goes flat? does anyone have any tips from personal experience or otherwise on how to remove this minor worry? someone's suggested having an electric key-switch hidden under the car to work the central locking in case the remote screws up, but that doesnt really help in the case of a flat battery....

Window Tinting - I'v seen a few places locally that provide window tinting, and they say that certain types of tints they use improve the strength of the window by quite a bit, does anyone know how true this is? is it just advertising hype, or is the window any more likely to hold together after some little $%*& tries to smash through it?

Any further suggestions on how to make my ICE a bit less nickable would be welcomed.... it's completely stealth installed, the last time it was broken into they went in through the front door, pulled the rear seats down, and took both my amps from the boot, the only suggestion that they might have been there was the blank stealth shelf I have which suggests it's not factory-standard, but all my kit is completely hidden away....

Thanks everyone :)

Maybe they knew your installation...do you use to show it sometimes to your friends[?]Don't forget thieves might be nearer to you than you can imagine[:0]!

If you do fit any extra security, don't tell anyone. It may not be them but the person they tell's workmate...etc. Word soon gets round. Some thieves will also just drive around looking for modded cars.

Window tints/films are good against opportunist thieves, but will only slow a determined thief by a few seconds.

Alarms/immobilisers will only usually deter TWOCers, unless the car is parked where you can hear the alarm and get to the car quickly. Be careful though.

De-locking is more difficult. You could try attaching a pull wire to one lock and hiding the other end in the door mirror or under the sill by the hinge. No better ideas on that one i'm afraid.

All you can really do is make it as difficult as possible for the scum out there, unfortunatelly if they really want your car they'll find a way to get it. [:(!]

Good luck and DON'T tell us how you fixed it. ;)

85% of Marea HLX drivers have speeding tickets.... lol they'll have to catch me first.

Yer car crime is a big problem near my UNI....I had my Vibe Box stolen......it really pissed me off!

So I now have security glass, Clifford Cat 1 and a few more tricks up my sleeve!

I would have given my car away to have 5 minutes with the lil tool who took it!

Oh well........bring back the death penalty!!! lol
