Removing a Toad immobiliser.

I picked up a cheap 2002 Seicento 1.1s at the weekend to replace my mot failed 899. Anyhow I have noticed a couple of things and whilst rummaging round I discovered a Toad A51s immobiliser behind the dash. I wasn't expecting it to be there and as I have no fobs or anything it is of no use.
I am assuming that this is going to be a bit of a pig to remove so should I just leave it where it is? And the other thing is, if I do leave it where it is is it likely to give me any problems in the future? I'm thinking if I need to disconnect the battery for any reason or anything else which might upset it.
I guess if I want to remove it I would need a wiring diagram?

Ian.

Re: Removing a Toad immobiliser.

Depends how professionally it has been installed, and if it's still actually connected.

The fact that it doesn't seem to work should mean it can just be removed. Normally there is a multi-plug into the control unit, so you could pop that off and throw it away if it still makes no difference.

At the end of the day, most of those old units worked by breaking a circuit (normally starter motor, or ignition live). The associated wire is colour coded, so it's not really a pig to remove them if you're reasonable confidence/competent with, say, wiring a stereo.

Re: Removing a Toad immobiliser.

Thanks for your reply.
I am guessing it is still connected but I could be wrong. So if I unplug the box from the multi plug and the car still works I am okay. I could give that a go but it worries me a little that by doing that I could disable the car completely and I have no fob or PIN number or anything.
I think perhaps the best thing is to just leave it alone and forget about it until it gives me problems. There's an awful lot of wires on that plug!

Ian.

Re: Removing a Toad immobiliser.

Perhaps.

You could also follow the wires and see if they are still attached.

If you run into any trouble it might be worth saving this - most relevant diagram for the wiring I could find.

Yes, the wires do seem to be attached. Thanks for the link.
I think I'm going to leave well alone though.
